Quad won't start... don't know about 'em

I am storing my brother's 03 Bombardier Ski-Doo Quad in my garage while he's at school. It hasn't been driven in 2 years. And nothing was done to it while it sat for that time...

Makes me mad:mad: , but my Dad spoils him and neither one of them took care of it. Anyway, I had the battery tested and it was dead, so I bought a brand new one and threw it in. I pulled both the spark plugs and cleaned them up. They were in rough shape. I'll be replacing those tomorrow. I siphoned all the old gas out of it and put new gas in it also. It cranks but won't turn over, choke is on also. I am hoping that replacing the spark plugs on it tomorrow will do it. If not, what should I do next? The Quad has less than 10 hours on it... Plus, it's about 20 degrees out, which I'm sure doesn't help.

Any help is appreciated...Thanks

Carberator needs rebuilt. Most likely the needle and seat are stuck.

Make sure that the fuel is on, and remove the air filter and shoot a blast of starting fluid in the intake and see if it will run for a few seconds. If so, then it's the carb. Here's a trick that i use on mine, I take an air hose with a air gun and a shop towel and blow some air into the fuel tank. I use the shop towel to create a seal and hold pressure in the tank. I blast it a couple of times to force fuel in the carb. (be careful not to over do it, or You will get gas on you) Then hit it with some starting fluid a couple of times and it will stay running.

Ya I would imagine the carb needs to be cleaned. The gas has obviously went bad and gummed up the needles and seat. Try to drain the float bowl too. You said Ski Doo or Quad?? Bombardier makes an ATV and they make Ski Doo as well.

Don't use starting fluid ........
Get a Can of Carb Cleaner pull the air cleaner and spray the carb cleaner in with choke open you can run it on Carb cleaner

new sparkplugs will help as will a light grade oil

It's an 03 DS650 - Manufactured by Ski-Doo, I guess Bombardier is the trim package  I don't know sh*t about these.

Here's a pic:

I have carb cleaner and an air compressor with tools. I am picking up plugs tomorrow. Should I grab anything else. I got to get this thing going tomorrow after work. The wife and kids are all excited. We got 12" snow today. :rocker:

I don't have heat in the garage or I'd be out there right now working on it. Oh well, I'll try what you guys said. I'll post my progress tomorrow.

Bombardier is the manufacture.

You arent going to get very far in a foot of snow. Trust me been there and done that, a sport quad just isnt made for snow unless you have some nice packed trails.

It says manufactured by Ski-Doo right on it. I don't know.

I'm just lookin' forward to getting it runnin'. I just joined an ATV forum today. I think with different tires for the snow, it might do OK. I'm just excited to finally get some use out of it.

I'm already looking into mods for it. At least the wife is excited about this one though. :bows:

make sure the kill switch isnt on. that always gets me

azmidget91 Dec 17, 2007 12:37 AM

me and my dad have been getting his quad and my bike all fixed up both have sat for years but instead of snow tires were puting on paddle tires.....itl be my first time at the dunes weekend after christmas

but yeah like everyone is saying if it ran when it was parked then it is deffinatly the carb, i suggest pulling it off and take the bowl off then take off the float be careful because the needle comes out with it then remove the jets and all the adjustment screws(remember where these are set at by counting how many turns it takes to screw it all the way in) then clean it very well being sure to blast out all little passage ways with carb cleaner, then reasseamble

If those tips dont work just drop it off at the dealer.

I got it goin'... Thanks everyone for all the help. I did a few laps around the backyard, but there's too much snow to really have some fun with it for now. The wife even jumped on and did a lap or two.

I really appreciate all the help.

Have fun and make sure you put some fuel stabilizer in it when your not going to use it for a while. It helps to keep the gas from going bad.
