I've seen it way too many times....You can hunt...hunt....and hunt some more and never kill an awesome deer. The first time your buddy ever goes hunting, he kills a bruiser. Shear Luck..for the most part, that's all hunting is IMHO.

That is an awesome deer..congrats man .

A handkerchief.... you have to tag the bucks with a certain colored handkerchief according to size rated on the Boone and Crocket scale.

We were asking the same thing once we got up to him and started looking at him. All we can think is possible war wound from another buck, or another hunter grazed him with a bullet or arrow. who knows, but I hope the taxidermist can make it look better if not get rid of it.

I was going to ask what that was too. Nice buck, Nice Marlin, and nice CIB, thanks for your service.

*UNSOLICITED OPINION* Leave that mark, whatever it is just as it is. That's the way he was when you found him/ the way God made him, whichever you prefer. I shot a huge old buck that looked rough. He had bark and everything else in the nubs around the base of his antlers from rubbing trees which I had the taxidermist leave. I figured that was how I pulled him out of the woods and how I wanted him to look. Again that was my personal preference.

If all else fails a taxidermist should be able to repair that area or use a doe cape on the mount. I've seen that before on deer that get all butchered up or shot through the neck.

Thumbs up

Very nice buck...I took a nice ten point on the second day of KS' season this year, 11/29. I'm having it mounted, as soon as I can make it to the taxidermists place due to the ice. Mine was a big/heavy one also, weighed 207 # field dressed. Not quite as big as the one I took in 2001, he weighed 236 # field dressed. Good old grain fed Kansas deer!!! Can't beat them...well, maybe Canada? Not intending to start any arguments
