One's for gas engines and one's for Diesel engines. I'll let you figure the rest out on your own.

As said, mainly the additives so the oil can stand up to the soot from the diesel.

I would think you would be fine with it in a lil 4 stroke motor. Hell, it might be better for it, compared to regular petral oil

I ran diesel oil in my old 1966 Dodge slant 6 for years and it never killed it. I only did because it was cheap (ie; free) since our shop bought it in bulk and after all, it was just an old beater work truck. I could get it free now too but I won't run it in anything I own now.

Here is what happened.

Today my 18 hp briggs mower ran low on oil, I had some Motorcraft oil from where I had bought to change the oil in the boat. I grabbed a bottle and dumped it in the mower. (I use it in everything anyway) As I was dumping I was like this looks funny. So looked at the bottle and it was 15w40 diesel. Looked in my bag and I have another one that was mixed in with my regular Motorcraft 10w20.
Apparently they got mixed up on the shelf and I just grabed the front 5 quarts assuming the others behind the 10w20 were all the same 10w20 regular.

So now my mower is running part diesel oil..... seemed to like it quit well actually.
But now I'm questioning myself, has this happened in my truck or in my boat? Will it hurt anything if it has?
Defiantly going to look at each bottle from now on.

Dont take my word for it at all, but I would sure think you would be ok if it were in your truck or boat.
Its mainly regular ol' petrol oil with some additives for the soot...I dont think the additives would do anything different to a gas engine then they would a diesel since there is still a lot of the same thing from one to the other (as far as engine components and such).

I just changed the oil in the truck last weekend, and wondering if I did the same thing or if same thing happened. I did gain 1 mpg fuel mileage over my normal. This week I got 17.8 mpg on all 3 tanks of gas I put through it this week. My normal is between 15.75-16.5.

Should I flush and change it again just incase, or enjoy it and start making it part of the routine to add 1 quart of diesel each time.

If your worried about it at all I would just drain the oil and add new. Better safe than sorry...12 dollars worth of oil is better than 1200 dollars for a new engine.

I still think you'd be fine though.

That is true, so the worst thing it could be doing is cleaning the gunk out but it's still going to serve the primary functions of lubricating and removing heat.

while you're at it start putting diesel in the gas tank and tell us if it helps it at all.

Yea I can thank my Grandpa for my oil paranoia.
He always told me, "Son the oil is the life blood of the engine, keep it clean and it will last forever."
He always got 300K miles trouble free or darn near it out of each of his trucks and tha twas using them for a rural mail route of 100 miles a day of dirt roads. So I figured he must be right.

When I start getting close to 3K between oil changes, I almost have panic attacks and images of red hot grinding metal run through my head while driving.

Same here buddy. Even in the manual for my 06 it says to go 5k miles between changes....I've only changed the oil in it once and I forced myself to about 4500, I was scared that last 1500 miles I cant bring myself to go 5000 miles between changes.
