Info on gel-burning fireplace

I have a real fireplace in my family room, but was looking at one of the gel burning ventless fireplaces for my bedroom.

Anyone have one? How much heat is put out from them?

Thanks for any help.

It sounds like those things burn Sterno..

3,000 btu is pretty freakin' lame, about what a can of sterno would put out with a reflective surface behind it.

If the mess and labor of wood is a concern then go with a natural gas "fireplace" (usually 35,000 btu or higher), or a pellet burner.. not sure about the btu from pellet burners, but I'm sure it's higher than 3,000.

:beers:

Looks like they use a big sterno can for the heat. Gives off a funny smell, and if something happens to where it tips over while on fire, forget about putting it out easily...

My buddy has one! It looks nice and all but pretty much gives off no heat. Maybe in a ver y small room you would get some benefits but thats about it. He bought it out of a skymall mag.

just get one that has fake logs and an electric switch to turn on... With a glass front and vents on top n bottom.

NOTE: Decorative fireplace is not designed to be a heat source, but it will take the chill out of the air. Fireplace reaches a temperature of about 160 degrees.
Imagine cuddeling up around an engine block, thats about as warm as it gets.

Each can of Sunjel outputs 3000 BTUs per hour and lasts about 3 hours. (For shorter burning times, fire can be extinguished and cans resealed and relit at a later time.) You can use up to 3 cans at a time.
3 cans @ $3.29 ea to run 9 hours...... I sleep longer than that sometimes! Sounds expensive and a PIA!
Thats $23.03 per day or $690.09 a month!

Pellets are cheaper and they can heat an entire floor.

Something tells me Red isn't worried about the cash. Also, I'm thinking he could care less about the heat the FP will be making and more about the heat coming from the bed......in case he gets a chick in there.

I said I have a real fireplace for the real wood. I just pretty much was going to use the gel-burner for an accent piece for the room. Heat is not the top priority.
