What's our longest road trip!

No, not the drug binge you were on, while driving and/or riding/ I mean, how far (one way, or round trip) was your longest road trip.

1.) Waterproof, LA to Emeryville, CA
Time: 32 hours, 26 minutes Total Est. Distance: 2197.23 miles

Took almost 40 hours...

*** Drove 25 hours straight, stopping for nothing but gas, from Waterproof, LA to Phoenix, AZ. Planned on a 6 hour re-charge stop, but we were tired, and newlwed... Ended up being there 17 hours, ....

2.) Fort Hucahuca, AZ to Fort Gordon, GA
Total Est. Time: 27 hours, 13 minutes Total Est. Distance: 1858.03 miles

Hmm, this took me 28 - 29 hours.

Ft. Huachuca, AZ to Waterproof, LA. Solo, no co-pilot, 21 hours, non-stop (except for gas in El Paso, TX (4 hrs after leaving Ft. Huachuca) again in Odessa, TX (5 hours later), again in Terrell, TX (6 hours later) and one last stop in Rayville, LA (5 hours later) (Notice how long it took to get across Texas' big arse?) 14 hours between 65 - 80 MPH, of nothing but Texas...

3.) Fort Hood, TX to Waterproof, LA, to Fort Banjamin Harrisson, IN
Total Est. Time: 20 hours, 34 minutes Total Est. Distance: 1319.51 miles

The mileage indicated is a one-way trip.

Lebanon Mo - Havelock NC
Total Est. Time: 17 hours, 56 minutes
Total Est. Distance: 1117.55 miles

Pulled out on Friday evening about 20:00 hours, was arriving back home Mondayabout 04:00.
Drive there actually took 22 hours waiting on my dad. He didnt know the truck he was driving and has a hard time seeing at night. That one we all drove straight through with no relife, except stoped friday night at a hotel, rest of the time was only for gas/restroom breaks/refreshments. By the time I arrived I had tunnel vision so bad I missed the driveway for blockbuster where we were meeting my brother and drove straigh over the curb, through the grass and then into the parking lot.
Drive back had 3 drivers in the car so drove non stop (except for gas)
Coming back we pulled out at about 11:00 hours sunday with arrival back home at 04:00 Monday.

Total trip was 2235.1 miles, and was 56 hours long from the time we left, till we got back home.

Clarification, please - is this the longest haul without stopping to sleep or what? Or is it the longest continuous trip which involves driving each day winding up in a different place each night?

Thorndale, TX --> Camp Pendleton, CA = 1,371 miles – about 20 hours 1 min (time depends on who is driving).

1. Detroit to Baton Rouge, LA (1,116 mi – about 17 hours 4 mins). Can't recall how long it took us. Left early evening one night, stopped somewhere in some mountains late night/early morning for sleep, finished up the trip the next day. Think it took us around 24 hours thanks to sleep.

2. Detroit to Sarasota, FL (1,231 mi – about 18 hours 53 mins) My bud and I drove this beyatch straight through in around 18 hours flat. Giddy up!

Either way. It can be a multi-day trip, as long as none of those days involved a return to the point of origin.

I made the Fort Huachuca to Waterproof run twice, (1,250 mile one-way), and back- twice, solo- non stop.

That 1991 Cavalier would roll for 5 hours, and only be on 1/2 tank. I didn't trust it- so I stopped every 5 hours and got gas. I HATED that car, until I put it on teh road the first time. Talk about fuel efficient.

I bet that joker got 35 MPG. I forget how big the tank was- but, lets just say the Army paid me $0.31 a mile to drive myself from Fort Huachuca, AX to Fort Gordon, on top of $25 a day per diem, and gave me four days to make the trip, with (if memory serves) $30.00 a day for hotel x 3.

That came to roughly, $757.00, of which $90.00 was deducted because I didn't have any hotel reciepts- so, I got $697 to make the trip...

It cost me less than $50.00 in gas and food, to Drive from Sierra Vista, Arizona to Augusta, Georgia.

Filled up before I left post.
Filled up (from over 1/2 tank) in El Paso, TX
Filled up from 1/2 tank in Odessa, TX
Filled up from a little under 1/2 tank in Terrell, TX
Filled up from 1/2 tank in Rayville, LA

****

Left Fort Huachuca @ 6:30 AM on 12/04/1991- Orders to arrive at Fort Gordon by midnight 12/08/1991.

Arrived in Waterproof, LA 21 hours later at 4:30 AM CST.

Hung out at home 12/05, 12/06 & 12/07. Left Waterproof at 8:00 AM CST, refueled in Atlanta, GA (6 hours after leaving Louisiana) (3 PM EST). Arrived in Augusta, Ga @ 5:45 PM EST Sunday, 12/08.

You gotta love a fuel-sipper like that.

I can't count the number of times I've made that 525 mile run from Fort Hood back to home, solo- stopping only in Shreveport to get gas at exit #13 (Monkhouse, Dr.).

That's back when Monkhouse seemed to be OK. The last time I stopped there (circa 2000) it was so bad, the gas stations locked up, you couldn't even go in to use the bathroom (bullet proof glass), and it looked run-down.

Moved to Exit #10 for the next 6 years, then it started looking messy.

Now we're stopping at exit #2, at the "Love's" Truck stop.

Columbus, GA to Killeen, TX. Around 900 miles one way, and it gave me a newfound hate for Texan drivers that I'll hold for the rest of my life.

Its 1,680 miles from where we have the race car (Mass.) to Moroso Motorsports Park in West Palm Beach Fla..

We have done this route 13 years straight to race at the "Winter Series"
Takes an average of 25 hrs..

And thats with the Mustang..
2 spare 427'S
A spare rear end..
Tranny..
Tons 'o tools..
In an enclosed trailer..

We would only shut the truck off to fuel it up..

...zap!

Lakeside CA to Joplin MO, via Los Angeles, Monterey, Alameda, Modesto, Lake Tahoe, Death Valley, Las Vegas, Kingman AZ, Grand Canyon, Durango CO, Colorado Springs, and Wichita. Approximately 3200 miles, done in 10 days, stopping in a different place each night. Trip was made solo. Done in my F-150 this spring. Averaged about 20 mpg and $3.00 a gallon. My whole 6 week trip was 7000 miles, and I spent about $1000 on gas.

Longest nonstop except for food, gas, and potty: 1100 miles, Jacksonville FL to Chicago. Also done solo, many years ago in a 1972 Datsun 510. Averaged about 30 mpg but back then, who cared? Gas was 37 cents a gallon for premium, gas for the whole trip cost me about 12 bucks.

Ask me this in about two weeks... It'll be 1841 miles non stop from St. Charles, MO to Huntington Beach, CA. Driving non stop, stopping for only fuel and food should take us 25 hours to get there.

Bighersh Jul 16, 2007 04:45 PM

Oh yeah...

I forgot about my trip to Jacksonville, from Fort Hood.

Fort Hood > Waterproof > Baton Rouge > Jacksonville.

Total Est. Time: 19 hours, 33 minutes
Total Est. Distance: 1250.91 miles

**There and back on a 4-day weekend.

I only count the one's over 500 miles. Anything under that, while still a "road trip" can be made with 2 - 3 good CD's in your car, without much sacrifice, in about 8 hours.

Might want to plan on about 30...

That's averaging 60 MPH, which with traffic, and potty stops, is a pretty good pace.

Not considering fuel ups, breaks and slowinng down for traffic.
If you log the time you leave and count the hours it takes to arrive, then devide by the distance that is your average speed.

Eample if you drive 2 hours at 70 mph and make 140 miles. Stop for gas, bathroom etc and takes 15 mins. at teh gas sattion. Then you are averaging 62.22222 MPH.
