CEL Reset?

Hey all.... got a quick question... it's not Ford related, it is Jeep/Dodge related...

I was driving down the road doing about 30 mph in 5th gear in my parents Compass that only has 900 miles on it. All of a sudden, out of a clear blue sky, the check engine light comes on solid. No flashing before hand...

I asked a friend of mine... and he said that it might have been because I was crusing in too high of a gear. Seems logical... because I am so used to driving high torque low end vehicles, as it makes me just want to drop in 5th all the time.

I am totally positive there is nothing wrong and I want to reset the CEL. I tried unhooking the battery, to removing fuses... and nothing seems to work.

Lemme guess... I need the OBDII reader to reset the light.

With only 900 miles I would do sqwat, except take it back to the dealer.

Same here. There's a reason for warranties.

If it's running smooth at 30 mph in 5th, and doesn't lug, ping, or vibrate, there's no reason why you shouldn't do that. I fail to see why that would trip a CEL.

It's under warranty, let the dealer worry about it. It could be a code for a more serious future problem, or it could be something silly like an evap leak.

I borrowed my friend's reader... I nabbed two codes:

1. P0335B
2. P0016

From what I've Googled:

1. P0335B - Crank Sensor

2. P0016 - Crank and cam out-of-sync

Dealer wasn't open. I was anxious to see what codes it was throwing. I did not clear them so when the dealer opens on Monday they will be able to diagnose them accordingly.

Just on the side of percaution I wouldn't tell them that you read the codes. Besides the fact that it will be interesting to see what they tell you it is.
