Second Job...
Second Job...
OK, with gas prices and adding everyday costs to my life, i have decided i need a second job temporarily to get caught up. I work for a consulting engineering company designing HVAC systems, i have been using AutoCad for 14 years. I work between 40-45 hours a week, so after 5 is hard to get to another job. Was thinking about working at a car wash on the weekends. Not sure what hourly wage would be, but i assume tips etc... I live in Florida, so get to be outside, not dealing with the public too much, yeah, here is your car, get out. Anyone have any other suggestions? :o

Evidently you haven't been drinking the kool-aid.
As for the car-wash gig, with this attitude:
"not dealing with the public too much, yeah, here is your car, get out."
you most likely will not be happy doing that job. You will be dealing with the public a lot, and if the people there are anything like the people who go to car washes here, they will be nit-picky and obnoxious and give you a hard time for not catching every little spot. So you might want to rethink that.
If you can only do the swing shift thing, and you really want to be away from the public you might want to see if any of the overnight packaging companies need anyone, especially if you are near an airport. I would imagine (although I have no idea what I'm talking about here, it's just an assumption) that that is a busy time for them loading airplanes with packages that absolutely, positively have to be someplace overnight.
Or maybe a stock clerk at a store. All ways to avoid the public and jobs that allow you to shut off your mind (for the most part).
Or, why not use the skills you already have and try to start your own drafting firm, or free-lance yourself to other companies doing the same work (especially if they are out of town) (is it something you can get specs for online and do it from home?)
Just some thoughts . . .
Good luck . . .

I've been making money from CAD since '95... Started in residential design... I don't have to, but I do work for a few builders here. Finding something like that is easy money... it's even better when the builders have stock plans that just need a few tweaks... But, it's hard to get away from the PC at times.
I agree, if i could find something cake like CADD i could do at home, that is my first choice. I have lost most of my contacts with residential since i started doing the commercial stuff... but worth looking into. I worked retail when i was in high school and college... hate the general public even today...
I mean, hell, it took 65 bucks in gas that lasted me 6 days... that starts to add up after awhile...

I agree, use the skills you've already got if you can. I work two jobs, but one of them isn't "official" as in getting a paycheck. I work officially for the dealer during the day, but in the evenings and on the weekends, I do side jobs at home for a little extra cash here and there.

I wonder how good these car wash business' are doing right now since we both are under these horrible water restrictions. I think there cleaning up since no one is able to wash their cars at home unless it's between 4-8 am on specified days.
