Shaking a lady's hand..?

So..my girlfriend and I randomly got into a conversation about how I shake a lady's hand. When I shake a lady's hand, its the complete opposite of how I shake a man's hand. I use more of my fingers than my palm, and I don't really squeeze too tight, more of a light grasp. She feels that I should shake a lady's hand as if I were shaking a man's hand, with a firm and tight grip. According to her, when I use a gentle hand-shake for a lady it makes her feel as if I'm talking down to her...Wtf? This kinda suprised me because my g/f is not a feminist at all. I'd like to hear opinions from both the men and women on here about how it should be done. Hopefully I'll prove my g/f wrong:thumbsup:

Not sure about the size of your hand, but when I shake a lady's hand, it usually fits in my palm.

All four of my finger tips fit into her palm and my thumb backs the back of her hand.

You are doing as I was taught, plus, you are not supposed to offer a lady a handshake, she should make the offer.

I also have a very very funny picture about proving women wrong, but I will not post it up... many might take offense

Regardless of the situation, in the south, we shake hands;)

Your gf is a femi-nazi in disguise. Dump her now.

Even though she wants to be a house-wife after she has kids? That just screams Femi-nazi........

I'd prefer a kiss but:D .......if I am getting a handshake from a man, I prefer it not to be a firm handshake.

I'm in the South! Well South west. I think the book of etiquite says that not all women are comfortable shaking hands and it is proper for the gentleman to wait for the lady to make the first move. Since the handshake evolved as a sign of non-aggresion (you can't be holding a sword or knife in your hand, unless you are left handed) and ladies did not carry weapons, they were not expected to shake hands.

When shaking a girl's hand, make sure your thumb is touching their middle finger.

No, it's supposed to be your middle finger rubbing the palm of her hand.
