My First Rant!
 

I live out in the countryside in a housing developement. No city, so the roads are paved and are maintained by the county. Now, my truck is black and I wash it at least once a week whether it needs it or not ( it always does). I try to keep it looking good. When I wash, I do a complete detail, including wiping down the engine compartmentand engine, and washing wheel wells, etc. Well, the county has decided to resurface the roads. The method they use is to spray a layer of black tar over the asphalt, then drop small gravel over the top, then steam roll it. You end up with about as much loose gravel as you do impacted gravel and a ton of dust. I go home and my truck turns white. Does no good to wash it, half a mile, it is filthy. Also, some numbrods continue to drive like it is the race track and gravel flies everywhere. I handled it pretty well for a week but it is about to get to me. Yesterday, my wife got her Expedition (also black) out for a run and it is sitting in the garage looking as bad as my truck. To make matters worse, they resurface about a half a mile per day, no telling when it will be finished. You guys have implied that ranting makes you feel better, I don't. :(

Ah, the tar and rocks rant, I feel your Texas BS road resurfacing method pain.

oh how we all love chip-seal it sucks...i've given up on my truck's finish- when i graduate grad school in december and move, the first thing to happen will be a full paint job.

HUH.... They just chip and sealed my road about 2 weeks ago, and I have been raving about how much better it is than the old mud, dirt with remains of turkey grit gravel that we use to have for a road. Less dust, dosen't wash away, no pot holes "yet". It's the next best thing to paved if you ask me.

I do see your frustration, to go from paved to chip and seal must seem to suck. But trust me it could be 5 X's worse..... Not exaturating.

Count yourself as lucky if this is the only chip-sealed road you have to deal with. They do it to a half-dozen roads EVERY YEAR around here. Try riding a motorcycle on it. Better yet, come right up on it while doing 50 mph on a motorcycle while the only sign warning you about it is where the chip-seal starts! I do feel your pain though.

Not much you can do about it. Just wait for rain to wash the grit away.

One of my greatest fears is that I'll have ol' Blue out for a run and end up in that kind of scenario on some rural back road!

There's nothing worse than driving in that gooey tar they put down and then spread the pea gravel out on. You get triple-whammied -- dust, paint chips, and tar sprayed all over the place! :mad:

Fortunately, ol' Blue is tucked safely in his garage stall.....:lol:

That gas is gonna turn to crude on you.:lol:

Then they'll use it to tar and rock the road by your house.

Maybe it's a garage-weight. :lol:

Yep he definatly could have used a little less garage weight.... and his was only a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier. :lol:
