Help me settle a bet - Wendy's vs. McD's
 
I'm hoping I'll get an answer from someone who actually has worked at Wendy's, but I'll take any info I can get. I've currently got a $50 bet going with my buddy over the following:

We both agree that McDonald's pre-cooks AND pre-asssembles their food, you go there, you can see the food sitting there wrapped up ready to go.

We disagree over Wendy's, however. My buddy says the ENTIRE burger is cooked and made fresh upon order. I say that I agree that they ASSEMBLE the burger when you order it (i.e. put lettuce, tomato, etc.), and also that they do not use frozen patties (as they advertise) whenever they do cook the meat. But, I am absolutely sure (unless someone here proves me wrong) that they must pre-cook the beef (whether they cook it away at some main processing plant or it comes to the local franchise and they cook it there I don't care). They must then heat it up when you order.

How do I know this? Because multiple times I've literally received my wrapped burger within 1-2 minutes of ordering at the counter. You go to Steak and Shake where they have burgers about as thin as wafers that they press down on with spatulas and it takes just that time (1-2 minutes) to cook the friggin patty, much less assemble the burger.

Anyone worked at Wendy's? If not, ever been able to see the process that goes on? I know this is a stupid-a$$ topic, but this is the kind of stuff men argue and bet about.... ;)

Wendy's burgers are cooked to order, although it isn't unheard of for a cook to have a couple dozen patties hitting the grill when he sees a line at the register.

I have no idea how McD's does it because their burgers are inedible IMHO. I haven't eaten a McD's hamburger in 15 years.

I don’t think either one has “pre-cooked” patties but I could be wrong. I can tell you from an approx. 6 month professional project I conducted that Wendy’s has the freshest hamburgers and fries when compared to McDonalds or Burger King.

McDonalds “pre-cooks” all kinds of hamburgers and set’s them under hot lights to keep them warm. Burger King does that as well but NUKE’S them prior to serving you. This can at times cause burns to your mouth from the nuked ketchup and mustard.

My project may have not really been professional but was conducted after my divorce when I was eating fast food almost every night, at least 5 nights a week… :devil:

The burger patty's at Wendy's are pre-cooked and placed in a holding bin, and replentished from the grill as they are used to fill orders.

AHAAA!.....What's a holding bin? ;)

I mean, doese the bin keep it warm? Is there a time limit on the burgers in the bin? Do they have to reheat? How does it exactly work? I need to sound like I know what I'm talking about ;)

Yes the bin keeps them warm and moist. They only cook a small amount at a time, and are supposed throw them away if they're in the bin for too long. They use some of the throw away meat for chili.

They have to have the burgers cooked and ready for the snadwich to be assembled. I believe they also have assembed sandwiches ready for those that don'e specify what toppings they want.

I have just order wendy's double and just go the basic LTPMK deal.

Only suppose to stay in bins at MCDs for 30 min. And they are frozen RAW burgers and they cook quickly because of the design of the grill.

Unless they've changed something, since I was a kid working at McDonald's, it is 10 minutes. They've changed how they cook the burgers since then; so, who knows? The burgers taste bland since they started cooking them without onion and salt.

Well, I sat and watched a girl at McDonalds in Wal Mart, load up a stove with what had to be 24 FROZEN patties.

After loading it, and clamped a lid down on it in what must've been a pressure cooker like machine.

Within 2 minutes, those patties came off that machine sizzling hot, and done...

I eat at Mickey D's simply because there is one on every other freaking block in Plano/North Dallas... But, how they beat Burger King when it comes to taste, I'll never know.
