Future home site... can't wait!

I got the boat back from being winterized, and we drove by our property today. I spent the weekend cutting trees and getting the ground prepared for excevation next April so we can finally build the house we've been waiting for over 7 years now. I bought this chunk of land in April of 1998 for my wife, and now that she will be graduating college in May of '06, we will be able to move back home for good and grow some roots. The house plans are all done, and we meet with some excevators later this week. I was driving up to my folks home to store the boat for the winter, so I clicked a quick picture. So close, but so far away, I can't wait to have my own home. We will be building it ourselves out of ARXX. I am contemplating buying the forms this year because the cost is supposed to increase dramatically next year due to oil prices. I can post updates on construction once we get started if you guys would like to see them.

Pretty. Are those very tall aspens or birch or what?

Good luck with it.

I am hoping to build a log home some time in the near future.

Sounds great yes by all means keep us updated and good luck.

Those are birch up front, and on the back of the property we have huge green aspen trees. Man those suckers are heavy! I put the 4 wheeler to good use this weekend by hauling 4-5' lengths of trees for 11 hours and burning all the brush and branches. I'm paying for it this week though, I'm sicker than snot now.

Not sure how sick snot gets, but it certainly paints an image . . . thanks for sharing.

I see we've missed the peak color season in your neck of the woods!

Your home site looks great -- good luck! Remember that the garage is the most important room in the house!

Awesome! Good luck with your construction!

Sigh. . .I miss Alaska :(

Okay, here's what it looks like with some color...

Kobi, I've always thought snot was pretty sick, that's why I typically blow it into kleenex and throw it away. Don't tell me you've been collecting yours all these years!
The garage is 25X33 feet. We are trying to find a way to do this type of garage flooring but we are having a hard time finding decent shipping up to Alaska. We might have to bring it up ourselves when we move back from Vegas.

We like the black and white checkered with the red border.

There's nothing sweeter than a garage with a black & white checkered tile floor -- someday, someday......!

I hear ya. We bought this lot with intentions of building right away, but plans change quick. We've been working a 5 year plan for 8 years now, and we are about a year from being complete with it.

I know all to well how it goes.

We do have a house now so it's not like an immediate "need". This house has many many years of service left in it. I bought it from my dad and I have literally lived on the same place my entire life. In this house all but the first 4 years of my life before dad built it and 3 months when I lived with my wife in an apartment before I bought it from dad. It should feel like home to me, but.. it's not. I call it a house more often than I call it home. Probably because I have dreamed of a lodge style log home since I was a little kid. I won't be truely happy with my habitat until I have lived in one. I may wish for this earth burm home back once I get it... But I dont think so. :)
