What's your stance on Child Support?
 

I just sat here and remembered how easily and readily men get taken to the bank, if they ever divorce their wives and there are children involved, or even if the child is born out of wedlock (bastard), the man can still be made to fork over up to 25% of his (gross or net; I forget) income to support this child.

As a child born from the seed of a sorry-a$$ Daddy, and raised by my mother, who struggled and made a way for us all, without one red cent from my Daddy in 18 years, 3 months and 12 days that I was living under her roof. I am fully for child support, and making sure it gets paid; but I think 25% is a bit high...

Sure, the needs of the child are paramount, but if two adults have decided they cannot raise the child together, then I feel its reasonable to require that both parents (if custody is shared) be responsible for maintaining adequate living arrangements that are suitable to a child; and that reasonable living expenses are shared.

I haven't had this happen to me, but I have friends at work that make about $60,000. They made $60,000 when they were with their wife. Now, they're divorced, she's moved to another state, and he has to pay $1,200 a month in Child Support. When I was making $60,000 I was only bringing home, around $1,877.00 per pay period (Net) the rest went to taxes, FICA, and other Uncle Sam entities whose hands are in our pockets. So, assuming he's in the same boat, and required to pay out $1,200/month- that is about 31% of in net income (Which may be 25% of gross).

So, effectively- now that the relationship is defunct, this man has to live on essentially 70% of his salary; but in doing so, still live up to his other financial obligations...

Now, if you are a celebrity such as Will Smith, Diddy, etc. who pays most of our annual salaries per month to the women that have bore children for them- when you're making $15,000,000.00/year, and you pay out $480,000.00/year in Support- that's no big deal...

But, if you're making $30,000.00 a year; and you have to pay your wife/girl $7,500 of that; it will change your life. You will eat beanies & weenies many a night on $22,500.00 a year; if you even have a place to live.

It's because if this, that I feel Child Support needs to be looked at in this country. It should be about making sure BOTH PARENTS take care of the child adequately. Not that one suffers for the sake of the child.

What do you guys/gals think?

And Alimony, man- don't even get me started on how much I hate the very prospect of that being in existence...

I'm married, with child- and my situation is stable; but it hasn’t always been. But, stuff like this worries me because, what if??

i agree with you, i think that the fathers should help out but not to where he can't even live himself.

In Oklahoma, they take BOTH parents income and base it on a percentage. I'm a single mom of 3 and have a court-order on 2 of them. I had the dad of child #1 pay until Jan. '04 and stayed unpaid until this last May. He not only UNDERpaid, those years he did pay, he has a 10% monthly interest on it. He owes me more now than he did back in '97. And my son is now 15, almost ready to drive....so he cost more as he gets older. I am in the process of taking him back for an increase. He and I both have different jobs and higher income. So I don't feel bad. On child #3, we have a court order but he is not working and still managed to pay until June '05. Now I don't know where he is located and I'm sure it wont be coming in anymore. As for child #2, I dont want to know a thing about where her "father" and I use that term lightly, is, nor do I want to. But regardless if the father wants a child or not, he is responsible for it. If he doesn't want any, USE PROTECTION or get fixed! And yes, its both partners responsibility to make sure that it does or does NOT happen. Men, if a woman says she's taking measures, safeguard yourself, not only against an unwanted pregnancy, but STD's also (another subject). And women there are other means of protection aside from the Pill, so you can't use the excuse that they make you sick or you forgot.

I'm apologize if I stepped on anyones toes, but its a 2 person tango. In the end, the only one who suffers is/are the child/ren

The worst situation is when a couple gets divorced, and then the father finds out he wasn't the father at all. But, at the custody, etc. proceedings, the court finds that since the child knows no other father but the one, HE gets stuck paying child support, AND IT AIN'T HIS BIOLOGICAL CHILD. That is the worst, for sure.

If that happened... I'd fire my lawyer on the spot right there in the court room and hire somebody else by that evening! Then I'd sue her for the child support I had payed in!

Man I would be on the news talking about it! I'd be in the papers! I'd start a petition! I'd be a big publicity event! Worst case scenario I'd lose but in the process the world would know that she is a low down dirty gold digging slut! She would never be happy in the USA again! Then if she left the US then I would not have to pay anymore.. Err I dont think anyway! :confused:

This happens all the time. My wife first told me about this last year. She saw it on Maury Povich I think. Then I read about it later in a People magazine. Crazy, no doubt. But think of it this way: if you had raised that child from birth, and thought it was yours, wouldn't you at least help somewhat, especially if there was a chance that the mom was a b!tch and could care less about the child's well-being?

Even though it is later found out the child is NOT the mans some men are still ordered to pay child support. Let’s face it gentlemen many of our comrades made this possible by being a bunch of low life un-responsible boys never meeting the manhood standards.

As far as the man having to use PROTECTION is complete BS. The woman is 50% responsible for laying down and opening her legs nice and wide to receive the goods. Any women stupid enough to think a man is fully responsible is not a women but a child without education and a properly functioning brain.

I am divorced and have full parental custody of my daughter. Her mother was ordered to pay child support. At first I really didn’t give a crap or not if I ever got a penny from her but since the court would not allow the case to proceed unless she paid the minimum of $50 a week she got stuck paying the state $50 a week.

When she actually works a normal job I get a check because the state takes it from her paycheck. She is a piss poor mother like many other divorced mothers are. You would be surprised how many divorced mothers are just piss poor now days. I had always thought most divorced fathers were the scumbags but women are quickly over passing them as the scumbags.

Some mothers are piss poor scumbags because they just plain neglect, never see, their kids. Most the others are piss poor scumbags because they USE their children for a PAYCHECK. Mine did that at first, told me if it wasn’t for the child support I could have the “kid”. When one of her live in “Johns” decided to touch my daughter and after he almost lost his life along with his trick (ex-wife) (yes I almost decided to shoot both of them with my shotgun but then logic and common sense kicked in so I left the gun at home and TOOK my daughter from their home and went straight to the police) I got full parental custody of my daughter. I have had her for the last 3 years. She is 16, very responsible (paying for her own car, a new 2005 Focus) and is about a B- avg. in HS. She will graduate at the end of this year and because of credits really only needs to take 3 classes but is taken 7 anyway.

I think the court needs to look at which parent makes the most money and that’s who gets the children, which most the time would be the man. At least the man, if he brings in the most money, should by law, have the first shot of getting custody or not. Sorry but this is not the 50’s and the mother is NOT always the best suited to care for a child and raise them to be responsible, not in today’s “My child is my meal ticket to a BIG check every week” world…
