I'd hate to be the officer that has to right this mess up....

Poor Mustang and Ranger!! :( I wanna know why that was all caught on video, was it some sick setup??

PSS-Mag Jun 17, 2005 10:22 PM

Most people with any guts or compassion would have put teh camera down and tried to help. Especially when they zoomed in and was showing the people in the Mustang! Atleast pick up the phone and call for help! Also you can hear the wheels squealing as everyone is locking up their brakes and skidding out of control etc. Yet you never even hear the camera man/woman so much as gasp. Much less the instinctive "Oh my God". That's just cold, heartless, and gutless!

Hell, I wouldnt have gone out there. It seems pretty obvious to me that any one who did run out there would have just been mowed down.
You cant really help any body when your nothing more then a grease stain on the interstate. Besides, It looked like there was already a cop there working a previous accident. You could hear him calling for an ambulance.....Notice he didnt run out there either.

Freeways and parked cars dont mix. I know the van had its Hazards on, but you could barely see them. I will give the Mustang a break since it totally whiped out, But why in the hell didnt any body else turn their hazards on?

Would have been a disaster if a tractor-trailer came up behind them.
It would have been a real mess Click on "Watch video" Duh

I guess your 4ways wouldn't work if your lights were busted out?

Podunk Jun 17, 2005 11:10 PM

No kidding, I meant that they should have turned their Hazards on while sitting stopped in the middle of the interstate...........BEFORE... some one rear ended them.

The ones that piss me off are the non-driving morons that locked up their brakes and skidded straight into the stopped car. Some people panic and forget how to use the big round steering wheel thing in their hands, they just skid straight into the obstacle.

I have a friend that drive like that and it scares the crap outta me to ride with her. Every time she sees a pedestrian near the curb or a car turning, she locks the wheel and hits the brakes. Last week she almost forced a pedestrian to walk into the side of her car (on a six lane road with no other cars nearby) because the pedestrian was starting to step out, waiting for her to pass. Instead of easing left a little and passing by, she locked the wheel and hit the brakes. I asked her why she did that and she gave some c0ckamame answer that made no sense.

KC-10 FE Jun 18, 2005 05:14 PM

If anyone needed further proof that 90% of people flat out just do not know how to drive... Well, there's your proof. I'm sorry, dark out or not, if you can't see a bunch of cars wrecked in the middle of the *****ing road, then you have no business driving. I truly feel sorry for those in the accidents, but ALL OF THEM should have been avoided. What a bunch of *****ing idiots.

I agree that no one should have run into the middle & tried to help. If you caught one person on tape rear-ending someone, and then another, and then another, etc... If you run out there to help, that's a sure fire way to end up in the cooler at the local morgue.

KC-10 FE out...
:beers:

My parents got caught in the middle of a similar situation. Except it was rainy, heavy traffic and it all happened in about 20 seconds before a Semi in the back finally jacknifed and stopped the traffic. Fortunately they were in a taurus and not some dinky car like the above crash test video.

One golden rule when something like that happens, NEVER get out of your car. Sure fire way to get killed. I imagine that video was a construction crew worker that happened to be there.

kingfish51 Jun 18, 2005 06:25 PM

Probably what caused a lot of it was the taping. All they were looking at was them taping and saying I wonder what they are filming -- crash.

Green_98 Jun 18, 2005 06:39 PM

Man, its tough watching the very first crash after what happened to me this past Thursday.....God Bless seatbelts thats all I can say!

Odin's Wrath Jun 18, 2005 06:59 PM

Most people only look about 6 travel seconds into the future while driving. That's why crap like that happens. It doesn't leave enough time to react, and have something fruitful come from that reaction.
