What's your problem???
What's your problem(s)..........with your truck. This is a thread for you to list your problems.............with your truck that is.
I have a list of problems...........with my truck...... 1. Problems with clunking and a grinding noise in the brakes, doesn't happen much anymore, but still a problem. 2. Coolant leak and smell, somewhere it is leaking, but not sure where. I found drops on the front differential. 3. the passenger side window quit working yesterday. The motor still works, but the window doesn't go up or down without being moved by hand. 4. The a/c doesn't work and hasn't worked since i bought it from the previous owner. 5. The front gas tank has a leak or something and doesn't work. Didn't work when i bought it. There are, and have been, some others, but all in all, not to major problems at all. And none effect or have effected the trucks driving ability. I love this truck, even with the problems, and there is no way i will give it up for a chevy or a dodge or any other company. I am sure many of you feel the same way about your trucks. |

Honestly if thats all thats wrong after 13 years... you are doing very well...
1. Is probably "free" to fix...tighten caliper adjusting bolts or caliper mounting bracket bolts one... 2. Not sure...if you find out let me know have a 97 Explorer with the same problem... 3. likely a lift strap or lift arm...good glass shop ussally cheaper than buying the tools and easier 4. has it been charged? 5. JB weld, cold steel, fiberglass. all do great job on gas tank leakes...if tank selector does not work, check ground and power to selector valve and switch. |
I'm sure it will cost some money to fix the brakes, I don't think the problem has anything to do with tightening anything, the brakes are extremely tight as they are. I think one of the rear drums may be in pieces though.
I'll keep you updated as i find out more about the problems. Yeah i agree, for being that old, but the truck is also a salvage title, the previous owner either bought the truck after an accident, or had an accident with the truck. All i know is that the whole rear half was replaced with a rear half from a parts truck so is must hava been an accident that was pretty big, so it's not all original either, but the most of the drive train is original, and for the most part, that is what counts. But i feel the need to help it through it's hard times, and help it get better......lol. I love that truck so much... |
This sounds more like a commercial....(Takes a whippin' and keeps on kickin')...LOL
My apologies...I forgot they had drums then...I had some noises "clanks and rattles" in my rear brakes when I would let off the gas  anyway it was just the caliper had come loose..Tightened her up and no more noises... Edited to add: Look in the drum from teh adjuster acess slots and see if you can see the adjuster in both sides... Had a Jeep that had backed out to far and the shoes didnt it fell of and made some nasty noises for a week untill I could get time to look at it. |
