Hey, here's my Z...
Well, I told ya'll about my new toy several months ago... but I just now finally got online again at home, so I decided to finally post some pictures...
Now remember this car was free, so it's not going to be as nice as your Grandma's '04 Cobra, but give me time ( and money please...) https://www.f150online.com/galleries...827-105349.jpg Here I am bringing her home. This was the second week of July I think... BTW, I think that trailer weighed more than the truck and Z together... UGH... It's my buddy's father-in-law's. They use for some kind of pavement roller... https://www.f150online.com/galleries...827-105353.jpg I don't think he ever cleaned this poor thing... |

Well, after a trip or two to the salvage yard, the Nissan dealership, and many trips to O'reilly's (plus a few online orders), here we are, still needing a few bugs worked out... AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!! I really like this little booger, but it is a money pit... I started with a new timing belt, water pump, and I'm just still going... Still haven't got new tires yet... https://www.f150online.com/galleries...827-105350.jpg BTW, here's part of what a $100 bill and 2 hours got me at the local Knuckle Buster's... (you pull it lot) https://www.f150online.com/galleries...827-105351.jpg and here's what a couple of cans of Krylon, vinyl dye, several large cans of elbow grease, some leftover carpet from my El Camino door panels, and ebay can do with those Knuckle Buster parts. I still have to finish the back of the car, and the other door panel, plus I'm converting all the dash lights over to blue. I have reverse glow gauages for the main cluster, and will eventually be replacing the boost, oil, etc, plus adding an A-pillar pod... |
nice car, looks like your in for a project. I know how that goes, try an old truck next... Theyre a pain!
I helped a guy I know sell one identical to yours about 4 years ago. It was absolutely perfect, 40,xxx original miles, and a 5 speed. I think he only got around $5,000 for it, and this car was well kept and in mint condition. Good luck on your project, keep us posted! |
ah the memories... fond memories at that, of my old 1981 280ZX... loved it. does yours have the 1/4 tank sub-gas-gauge? IMO, one of the most useful pieces of instrumentation, it boggles my mind why it didn't catch on to other vehicles... it was cool, how many cars had 'digital' radio and cassette in '81, very 'bling' for it's time... also one of the easiest cars to work on, the in-line six is great, you could change the spark plugs every day in about 5 minutes if you wanted to. as you might have already found out, that car is very 'cult-ish'. lots of parts out there for them, lots of mods. too. i remember looking into the feasibility of changing mine from fuel injection to double carbs.... cool car, nice to see 'em around still! :) |

MOST things are pretty easy to get to, but I had quite a time with the crank sprocket. Finally had to cut grooves to get a puller on it... |
