I'm THROUGH With CRAPple..

Meet the Iriver iHP-120

Just picked it up last weekend. UNLIKE Apple, it doesn't try to think for you, has a far more functional "remote"(you can navigate folders as you would on the main unit), battery lasts twice as long (about 16hrs they claim), and gets you more storage for your buck (it also includes a leather case and ear-bud style headphones). Plus, you don't HAVE to use a database manager to sych, simply plug it in and it's immediately recognized as simply another drive. Then it's just click and drag folders/files/etc. in whatever order you wish without the "synching" BS.

i've just gotten so damn sick of CRAPple software not working right on my XP... i'm fairly computer savvy, and i can't tell you how many hours i've wasted on CRAPple software...

that looks like a pretty nice set up there, if you don' mind, what was the price like compared to a similar ipod. I'm not a big apple fan myself.

Huh... I love my iPod. Got the 2nd gen 'pod. Prior I was stuck with MusicMatch (hated that software) but I can now use iTunes. A simple, straightforward program. I still don't think it syncs nearly as fast as it should, but whatever. Crapple rocks. Have you seen the new iMacs? Almost makes me want to switch...

$266 - 20gig
crapple 20gig - $299 (add $40 for remote/headphones) add $30 for case) add another $30 for firewire USB cable), so, total spent is really more like $400.

You'll find that crapple likes to nickel and dime their customers by charging extra for what most manufacturers simply include with your purchase.

I've never really cared for apple either, they try and think for you to a greater extent than MS. Ever try configuring or troubleshooting apple software on an MS pc?

apple's slogan should read: It's OUR way because you're stupid.

i have an aversion to database programs for music. IMO, it's waaaay too confining. I basically have gigs and gigs of songs in alpha order by track title, and simply create folders with particular songs for "playlists". It's simplistic yes, but it's universal and far more flexible and quicker... again, IMO, it's what works best for me... this Iriver, i just plug in, immediately recognized, and just drag and drop files/folders where I want, PLUS the apple remote is junk compared to the remote on this thing...

now my Ipod is just collecting dust...

and no, I haven't seen the new imacs... IMO, the only REAL thing apple has going for them is aesthetics....

That's perfect. Have you seen the latest "aluminum" powerbooks? You can't even change the hard drive, you have to ship it to Apple. Just say no to MAC!

And some people think MS tries to think for you... I think it's a hierarchy with three varying grades:

Linux - for those that want to configure EVERYTHING

MS - for those who want things to simply "work right", but you can configure/manipulate to a decent extent.

MAC - forget about it, it's simply they way it is. you don't like it, F you.

JUST SAY "NO" TO MAC.

Awesome!

wow, we both dislike the PNAC and Macs, I like this guy.
I'm still wallowing around with G3's and slot loading iMacs at work, all running OS9 so most days I would like to strangle Steve Jobs with my bare hands.

you know, apple has proven one thing: make it look nice, and they will buy it.

if dell or MS were smart, they'd start producing blinged-out pc's (kinda like the alienware stuff) with neon lights, boxes in different shapes (i.e. a big plastic hello kitty cat figure where you stuff the CD's into the mouth for young chicks). Most people don't really need to give a damn about PC specs. these days anyway. all they need to know (and in this order) is:

1. you can watch porn DVD's
2. there's plenty of room for downloaded porn
3. it will play any video game
4. you can rip music you want
5. you can make great home-made porn

THAT would throw the apple back into the orchard of bankruptcy....

And that's bad?! The public is dumber than a box of rocks and needs to be given things they can't upgrade or poke around with. The world would be a better place. I lock down my users so much they have no other choice than to only do their jobs. And guess what? Much less calls... they can't screw anything up! God bless Macs and their "F you this is how its gonna be" approach...

I'll remind FoMoCo of this next time you buy a new truck.
I find the Mac way counterintuitive for me, maybe b/c i was raised using PCs and spent my formative computer years on PCs. I hear that sony has a new ipod competitor to try and take a bite out of them too. I like beany's idea about the Hello Kitty computer, sign me up for one of those. I have found that there are a lot of dumb people who will buy anything that says Mac on it (or has the "i" prefix) so I'm going to test the idiots I work with by marketing "iturds", which is really just dog crap but you'll have to have it b/c you can't have anything but the best ***** on your shoes can you? Up next will be the "ispork", a better way to eat, who needs two utensils, the Mac gods say you should only use one!

LMAO... you remind me of an sys. guy i used to intentionally piss off in one of my former jobs... i specifically deleted a file called "NWCLIENT" on my pc, played dumb and said i thought the folder was full of "old clients"...

i don't think you sys guys work your arses off like it appears. i think you guys implement your previously stated philosophy so you can post on messageboards and download porn all day....

For the smart people, they have the option to buy nice power Macs that can be modded out. For the idiots however, they get iMacs.

And even iMacs/powerbooks can be modded. It just takes more skill and knowhow. Crack it open and mod up baby!! My x-box wasn't meant to be modded, but what the hell?

Just for the record, I don't own a mac or use one on even a semi-regular basis. I am a fan of them and the direction they are moving with OS X. I also am consistantly impressed with the amount of time & effort they put into engineering their products. Apple makes some of the most well designed products on the market, period.

Nothings perfect...

I vehemently disagree. For example, that Iriver device is faaaaar better designed than the Ipod. The ONLY thing the Ipod has on it is the touchy-feely wheel, and the shiny it-looks-nice-in-the-art-gallery-look. Heavy on the bling, low on realistic functionality. If apple engineers are spending so much time and effort on designing this stuff, the've been sitting back and smoking weed a little too much...

Yeah, for an entry price of what? 2.8K? oh wait, you need an RCA-1/8 adapter? $3 from radio shack, make it white and attach the "i" prefix, and it's all of a sudden $29.99...

Sorry, the more I deal with macs, the more respect I lose for it...
