'I'm fascinated by Hip-Hop

daily hip-hop news

'I'm fascinated by Rap and Hip-Hop' says Democratic presidential candidate, John Kerry during an MTV Choose or Loose forum. Offering up a heavy dose of street credibility, Kerry defended gangsta rap, freedom of speech and the realities of street life.
Gangsta rap is anti-cop or pro-cop-killing. I think Kerry will say anything to anyone to get their vote.

What are your thoughts

First of all, just about any candidate will say anything to get elected, and that goes for Republicans and Democrats....

Secondly, (although I know nothing abut Kerry so I have no idea whether I like him or nor) you did not list the entire quote so you are mis-representing what he said... I doubt whether he actually listens to hip-hop but he did say that some of the lyrics (especially the part about cop killing) is offensive...

"I'm fascinated by rap and by hip-hop. I think there's a lot of poetry in it. There's a lot of anger, a lot of social energy in it. And I think you'd better listen to it pretty carefully, 'cause it's important."

When questioned about offensive rap lyrics, Kerry said there is a line to be drawn, but defended freedom of speech.

"I think that there is a line you draw between government intervention and the right of speech and the right for people to express themselves, but do I think there are standards of decency in that? Yes, I do. Do I think that sometimes some lyrics in some songs have stepped over what I consider to be a reasonable line? Yeah, I do. I think when you start talking about killing cops or something like that, it bothers me."

Calling rap a "reflection of life", Kerry empathized with the struggles reflected in the music.

"I'm still listening because I know that it's a reflection of the street and it's a reflection of life, and I understand all that. I'm not for the government censoring or stepping in. But I don't think it's inappropriate occasionally to talk about what you think is a standard or what you think is a value that is worth trying to live up to."

I give it 3 days before another article pops up with Kerry saying that does not approve of the music.

LMAO, you mean something like this:

Kerry -

"I said I loved and approved of this music before I said I hated it and disapproved of this music"

"I voted for the $87 billion before I voted against the $87 billion"

"I voted YES for "No Child Left Behind" before I decided to leave all the childern behind"

You get the idea...

Its just JFKs way of appealing to the young black voters.
I dont see him listening to it at the masion or having some thumpin stereo in the limo.
Sure when he is in his normal caucasion circles he bitches about how it is destroying the fabric of america.
Dont see him walkin the streets in the hoods of Detriot or any other city with his flannel shirt and cackies on shackin hands with the brothers.
Sure with in a week someone will have him quoted as saying how bad it is and how he really feels about it.

Hey Burt...at least that "Weasel" can pronounce "America". Someone needs to tell GW that he is the president of AMERICA, not "Merca".

Just thought I would do some GW bashing......carry on!!

the last few presidential elections have been like picking the best turd.

I would vote for Dennis Miller if he could afford the pay cut and run for pres.

President Miller at a Press Conference is asked why he has invaded most of Europe:

<shrug> <grin> "...but, that was just my opinion, I could be wrong. So, Sue Me!"
