that's some pretty fu@ked up *****.....i was on my way home from my parents this past summer, route 8 in CT, all of a sudden a guy on a bike goes past me (maybe like 10 or 15 mph faster than me ...and i was going 80), about 3 miles up the road cars started braking. I got up there to see this guy's bike just coming to a stop from skidding about 200 feet....he was in a heap on the OTHER side of the jersey barrier. I pulled over and was the second person there. No helmet (in CT you don't have to wear one), long sleeve shirt, jeans and loafers...that's right loafers. The guy had road rash all over his body. The impact must have been so hard it ripped his pants and shirt right off! Both legs were obviously broken (and his ankle bone was showing) and so was his left arm (humorous, not the forearm), his nuckles were all broken, bones exposed and he was bleeding from his head, nose and ears....medics came and i left....never did find out if he died or not....but after seeing that i have NO desire to get a bike.

The damage to the guy wearing sandals is an exact reason why you wear full gear when on a bike. He wouldn't have the road rash, bare ankle bones, busted up knuckles, and as much head trauma if he had been wearing gloves, boots, leathers, and a helmet.
