OSU's Reynolds and others.....

Sad where our pro sports teams are going with these efforts to intentional inflict injuries on an opponent and even sadder when it shows up in college sports too.

Ohio State's Robert Reynolds was shown on video intentionally choking the other teams quarterback (Sorgi) while he was prone on the ground after being tackled. Reynolds says it was simply a loss of control and will sit out ONE game for his actions. This is a travesty and Reynolds should be barred from sports altogether. He intentionaly sought to injure his opponent in a way that could have caused a fatal injury and did cause him to not continue with the game due to the damage to his throat from the choking. Watching the video shows how Reynold sought and manuvered that particular hold to Sorgi's throat in order to do the damage.

Then we have Warren Sapp.... a loudmouth bully..... nuff said about him.

Oh, there are many more but today, those two "very small people" really stand out.

Sports are great but it seems that more and more often, it brings out the worse in those who play as well as those who watch. And it getting to be more acceptable too, it seems............

I saw that incident happen live on TV when Renyolds went after the QB and it was honestly one of the most disturbing things that I've ever seen happen in college competition.

I was reading on cnn.si.com earlier about the same incident where he released a public appology and a direct appology to the QB. In my opinion, this isn't good enough. The NCAA needs to hang his balls on their wall and make an example out of him.

How is this incident different from a fist fight where one guy gets blindsided by a punch in a soccer game or when a pitcher throws at a guy's head on purpose? It's not. Ejections in either sport, soccer or baseball, result in a MINIMUM of a one game suspension and NCAA investigation. This should be no different even though the officials obviously didn't see it happen as no flag was thrown.

I referee NCAA soccer and played NCAA Div I soccer many pounds ago. I've never seen something quite that bad. Fights happen. People get pee'd off and stuff like that shouldn't but does happen. It's heinous, blatent attempts to injure another player, such as Mr. Renyolds' actions, that make a good competition go to the way side.

I, for one, and disgusted that OSU simply allowed an appology to be sufficient for his actions and, further, I'm angry that the NCAA opted to do nothing (to date).

RP :(

*EDIT* I hadn't heard that he was to be suspended for one game and haven't been able to find that info on the web either. Anyone?

Robert Reynolds should be banned from all sports for the rest of his life PERIOD!!!

No second chance, maybe then others will get the idea...

You have another FINE example of the lack of discipline with some of these guys. That's incredible.

If I was the guy that got decked, charges WOULD HAVE BEEN FILED and I would go after the kid for all it's worth. It's not about money, it's about standing up for what is right and the idiots that make it wrong.

That moron needs to be banned for life as well. Nobody needs these guys. They are not great, they may be good but there is ALWAYS someone better out there.

I kind of agree with you. I would sue the team (or school) for every penny OR make them ban the moron for life...

Uh, if you rush the field at me while Im walking off, point your finger in my face while screaming obcenities, Id knock your block off to and continue on my way. The dude begged to get clobbered by a Football player, he did, the player got into trouble rightly so. I see no comparison between this and the choking incident. BTW I hate Nebraska :)

Swofford,

I'm not sure if you've seen more of the video or have audio on yours or what but, the way I see it, the guy who totally decks the student is in a jog going by him and simply doesn't like what he sees. I may be wrong and, you're probably right, he might have deserved it but, the definition of 'deserved it' is in the eyes of the beholder and, as a collegiate athelete, he doesn't get to define it himself. The NCAA has people trained in this type of definition writing.

Doesn't matter if the kid told the moron that he had his mother last night. NO reason for what he did and should be banned from playing the rest of his school days...

You either have sportsmenship or you don't. If you don't then you NEVER play again...

ESPN showed the video and audio, the fan was taunting him and pointing his finger at him as "Im going to get you" Id have kicked his ass all over the field as well.

I also think that if someone intentionally tries to injur another player, they should be banned. That's just not cool.

DonnyD Oct 16, 2003 07:06 AM

Yeah, the decking of that Mizzou fan was also another act of "loss of control" by someone who also should be banned from sports altogether........as it is, he simply sits out one game and goes on with his brag about decking a fan.............lets just hope that fan presses charges criminally as well as in the civil courts. That was a pure sucker punch and nothing the fan did justified it.

That is just another example of how these atheletes think they can do on and off the field....... spoiled into lashing out at someone if they don't get their way...........

They only grow up to become spoiled adults and someone will always have to cleanup their shi**............

When bad behaviors becomes intentional injuries to another, things need to change..........a public apology and a one game sit-out is simply not enough for me to forget about it. When the Universities feild this type of attitude, the University itself should shoulder some of the burden and take it upon itself to eliminate that player from ever representing them again..........

Just think about how much of this type of stuff goes on that isn't captured on tape!

I understand. I didn't see that video but, it still raises the question of what justifies it.

Even though you hate it and even though you know it's the wrong thing, if I were to, for example, cuss your brother out while you were standing there, I haven't 'assaulted him' by the definition of the law. When you slug a person, spit on a person, or push a person; THAT IS ASSAULT.

He had no justification to follow through with his actions and, for that case, no one would have in this instance.

I'm not trying to argue with you... just a friendly debate.

Trust me, I played sports and, in my hot-headed days as a Division I goalkeeper, I might have decked the guy too but, in hindsight, it would've definately been wrong.

That player was a big wussie that needs his ass kicked big time. Some brave wuss to have his helmet and pads on to hit someone. Dosn't matter what the guy said the moron player needs to be banned from every playing sports again. He is not the best so no need to keep him, there is always someone better.

What a punk ass wuss...
