Anyone else disappointed with the new Jane's Addiction?
I have worn out my other Jane's recordings and absolutely love the band and all of the side projects.
But this latest one seems a little weak. Maybe its just me. |
It is ok. It is definetly not up to par with Ritual.
|
yes, yes & yes.
that album hurt, wonder if its like the replacements 'tim' album. dont know if you were ever a replacements fan but tim stood for 'this is money'. that however was still a great great album. sort of a big money shot. the cover art should have been a warning. whats worse is after listening to it for about two weeks or so i took out nothing shocking and spun that, and it almost brought tears to my eyes. ted just admit it, pigs in zen, summertime rolls... dont know how you could ever top that though. saw them once years ago, i think on the ritual dey lo habitual tour and they rocked the house. think david navaro's got too much hollywood in his eyes. |
I don't think anything will ever top Nothing Shocking. It's awsome, and I have a lot cool memories listening to it when it was new. Memories, I guess that's what you'd call them;) . I'm not as impressed with the new one like I am with Nothing Shocking and Ritual. The two Porno for Pyros are cool but not Janes. Kettle Whistle is cool because it's got a lot of the older stuff on it.
I buy the newer stuff from groups I really like in the hopes that they will top their previous work. Kind of like A Perfect Circle. I guess they progress as artists. As long as they don't go the way of Metallica (please don't flame me too bad if you like the new stuff) then I will be happy to have as many examples of their work in my collection as I can. One cool thing is, though some of our favorites from a few years past may progress to a point that we aren't as fond of, there is always new cool stuff coming out. |
Wittom,
I wouldn't rip you for your musical preferences; but, I have to say that I am one of those people that didn't care much for Metallica until the "Black Album." Everything sort of came together on that album. Yeah, they rocked prior to that album; but, it was a discordant cacophony of sound with a few shining moments here and there. They were sort of like coffee before. An acquired taste. You had to force yourself to listen until you either liked it or gave up on it. On the "Black Album," they became more like chocolate. One bite and you were hooked. Of course, that's JMO. |

The thing with Metallica is I started listening to them when I was a rebelious young teen ager. Their angst fit me well at the time. They were a different kind of band. They didn't do videos on MTV, they said they would never sell out. Well it's been a while since I was a teen ager but I haven't been able to forget them saying they would not sell out. They got older, like all of us do, and did a lot of the things they proclaimed they would never do. That's really not the issue I have with their music. I equate Metallica with heavy, angst driven music. I feel that Black was the turning point. I was dissapointed when they did Turn the page. It's a cool song by Seiger but, well not as good as the remakes on Garage Days. ... and to bring this back on topic, I think this has happened in a way to Janes Addiction, and a bunch of other groups. It's not right to say that some of our old favorites have gotten worse, they are just different than they were when they were new to us. We all have music that we like and music that we don't like. We all have opinions on both. That's all I'm giving is my opinion. I'm not an expert on music, and know I'm not qualified to critique the technicle aspects of any groups artists. And If I don't stop typing now I will go on, and on and on.... ok, enough tom |
and speaking of Navarro projects... is it just me or do the Chili's sound really weak since he left and John came back to the band?
They only seem to do ballads these days. |
californication is a great cd. was that the first with that forshante guy being back (sorry about the spelling).
anybody here have the decontsruction cd, i think that was david navaro & perkins or and maybe the bassist from janes. i think it was done a year or two after the break up? i mention that more out of curiousity, as i didnt care for it much at all. i have the first porno for pyros cd also and it was okay. i thought metallica's turning point was master of puppets. i think that was the last album that the did that was worthy of praise. kill em all & ride the lightning really tore it up also. both of those albums were a great adrenaline rush. theres very few bands that i can think of that had long careers and their stuff progressivly got better. i think dramarama was one, steve earle is another, the beastie boys, and although only two albums strong, system of a down shows signs of growing stronger as they go also. |
Re: Anyone else disappointed with the new Jane's Addiction?
I think it is natural to be disappointed; however now is the time to be supportive of Jane. She needs the help of people that love her if she is to ever overcome her addicition. All of you should be ashamed of yourselves for saying she's "weak". Show a little compassion.
Ok, I have no idea WTF good or bad Jane's Addicition sounds like. I'm old.....sue me. |
