Mexican Driver's License
I have a couple of questions and hope someone knows the answers.
1) How hard is it to get a driver’s license in Mexico? Do you have to pass a written test and a driving test? Pass a physical exam? 2) What are the insurance requirements? Does the Mexican government even require insurance? Thanks, Dave |
Just apply for one in California.
I've heard it's pretty easy to get one there. |
Mexico-California bout the same is it not???

What a "let down".
I was expecting something funny. |

I was disappointed too.
But while we are on this subject, I was curious too. This morning my BF called to tell me some OTR trucker parked and ran up to him. My BF got in his truck, locked it, and cracked the window to see what the guy wanted. The guy was Mexican, (and no, I don't care if that is PC or not) and pointing to an address on a delivery invoice. My BF rolled down the window a bit, and pointed further up the road saying "It is right up there" The guy couldn't even understand what he said. Then my BF is pointing to a map, then the road again ect. He was so mad, it got us to wondering. Why would anyone get a CDL and drive in a country where they can't read or speak the language? (no CB either) and just how does one get a CDL in a foriegn country anyway? |
Its sad to watch this country go down the drain. Here in Mass, I sent a couple of my guys for thier CDL, it is offered only in English and is done by computer. When you get 70% it shuts down and you pass. I guess you do not need to know or be asked the other 30%
Now these guys are Puerto Rican and they speak English great but do not read it very well. So I call the registry and ask if they can be given the test verbally? They say no....because how are they going to read the street signage. I agree makes total sense. I then say - I recently took my motorcycle test and I thought it was offered in both English and Spanish?? She says that the CDL is the ONLY one that is offered in ENGLISH ONLY. So if you drive a motorcycle or car - You do not NEED to be able to read the signage. WTF |

You should get insurance. It is not exactly required but you should cover your a$$ just in case you get hit and the other does not have insurance. Most U.S. insurances are not valid in Mexico. The government requires proof of ownership of the vehicle more than anything. More info http://www.mexicaninsurance.com/ click the FAQ. Just watch out for the National Army troops and do not offer them any $$ or off to jail you go, they just check your vehicle for contraband. Any other kind of police official is fair game. $5 should do it. |
I thought the old thread go reopened:bandito:

Blowntruck,
Thanks for the reply. Getting a license seems about the same, but the insurance is a lot different. I'm sorry if I disappointed anyone with this thread; I just wondered how hard it is to get a driver's license in Mexico. Dave |
