SPARK PLUGS AND PERFORMANCE
SPARK PLUGS AND PERFORMANCE
Does anyone have an opinion on spark plugs and performance. I have seen many brands advertising better fuel economy and higher horsepower, but what is the real story.
I have noticed Tina uses the Bosch +4's. Any comments on performance. Also are there any warranty issues to worry about when changing plugs.

Hi,
Welcome to F150online! You have the same color truck I got. Dont forget to include what engine you have in your profile. As far as the spark plugs, they just improve throttle response and such. No acceleration times are improved and if they are, very un-noticiable. If you want the best bang for the buck, get the superchip. It adds easily 25hp and 40lb-ft torque, good for speed, towing, everyday driving, and gets you an extra 2-3 mpg. Check out the COMPUTER CHIPS forum. Mike Troyer sells them. his info is below:

Ender11: changing my plugs was just a whim I had, not very expensive but murder on the hands. At the time I had 43k on the Ford plugs and the truck was running great (I thought) Of the 8 plugs, 2 actually were bad, it just wasn't bad enough to run ruff (yet) Once I got the new plugs in and drove it, I could tell a difference in the engine, smoother. There's no change in hp or fuel milage. I am very glad I decided to change them and will be changing my plug wires next. (they are expensive!) Just wish I had done both at the same time. Oh, I picked the BOSCH because of other members using and liking them. I found them for $6 each @ an auto parts store.

Ender11, I also put in the plat4 plugs and changed the wires to MSD superconductor, they're only a few dollars more than the stock wires. And the MSD is the last wires you'll buy, it's really worth it. The truck accels better or is it my imagination after popping in 200.00?
Hey guys, thanks for all the great responses. I will probably be changing wires and plugs asap. Have on every vehicle ive owned. I have never liked stock wires. Will let you know what's up.

Ender11,
You dont have to worry about stock spark plug wires or aftermarket brands on your truck. We just have to worry about those coils burning up. Its great isnt it/ No sparkplug wires.

Speaking of spark plugs and plug wires....what's the Bosch "+4" and "8mm" plug wire make/model for a 4.6L V8? A couple of parts stores did not have a Bosch cross reference for my '98 F150 4.6L. Any replys appreciated.
