92 F250 convert 2wd to 4wd
So I have a 1992 F250 that's ALMOST the perfect truck. What would make it perfect is four wheel drive! It's in excellent shape, built in Norfolk, Va., body & mechanical all 100% w/ low miles for a 92. It's a 133" wheelbase styleside regular cab w/a 4.9L 6, 4 speed+OD manual. Custom (base) model - w/ no frills. So how the heck do I figure out what donor truck to get? I get that it needs to be a 92-96 9th gen 4x4... but that's where my knowledge ends... I'm hearing some say its a bolt on, others say don't even try it... Can I keep the existing transmission? What details must I know about my truck before finding the right donor? Thanks much folks!!

Appreciate the support ManualF150 - thankfully it's currently an extra vehicle. Hoping to learn here if anyone else has insight on this particular swap. Learned today that my front end is a twin traction beam front axle - still haven't confirmed my transmission. It's a 4-speed with OD if anyone here knows - I tried looking it up via the VIN and got no where...
