I am looking at a 2010 f250 with 84000 on it. It looks to be in good shape and runs nice. I need something dependable to get back and forth to work every day mostly highway miles. The truck has a rebuilt title so the guy wants 16k for it. witch is under KBB book value.
Also this is a fully loaded XLT with off road fx4 and towing package
Does this sound like a good investment?

Is this a decent truck for the money and reliability?

Do i dare ask what highway MPG is?

it has a 5.4 in it...witch i know is known for spark plugs breaking off when changing them.

Info from owners of these things would be nice... all reviews for this truck are always diesel.

 

This was fixed in 2008, the 2010 has conventional 1 piece plugs. However, the cam phaser issues weren't completely fixed.

Highway gas mileage will probably be 15 at best. It's not going to ride very smooth, especially unloaded.

 

I am use to a rough / stiff riding suspension and have had many 3/4 ton trucks.
I am strictly worried about mechanical issues this this is known for.
15mpg is not bad from what i normally have gotten in the past
what was the cam phasing issue? from what i see its just annoying ticking not a real problem.

 

There's more than just ticking - the whole VCT system wasn't one of Ford's better efforts.

 

A rebuilt title??? HELL NO!

I can't say that I know what F-250s are worth but unless it's a LOT more than a F-150 IMO that's too much money for one that old and with that many miles;;; even if it wasn't rebuilt from a totaled out wreck.

"Good shape" usually just means a fresh coat of paint over the existing rust and bondo!

KBB has several different values, which one is the seller quoting????

If you need a commuting vehicle then buy a commuting vehicle! F-250s are known for being rather uncomfortable and with 84,000 miles on the clock you could be facing rather expensive repairs at any time. Even routine maintenance items like brakes, timing belt, etc at reaching the end of their life at that point.

An F-150 with the 5.4 usually gets anywhere from 14 to about 17 or 18 MPG on the highway. I expect the F-250 to be worse. If you carry weight in it or jack it up or put larger tires on an F-150 or do very much stop and go, it cuts the MPG drastically. Expect the same from an F-250. These are NOT commuter vehicles!

Daily commute vehicle? Are you hauling a bunch of stuff for work each day?

I commuted with a 97 F150 with a 5.4 and it got around 14 mpg on average. The best hwy mpg I got on it was 17 mpg. I did this for for about 12 years.... Did I need a truck to go to work in? No.. Did I enjoy driving the truck to work everyday? Yes...

But, my 97 5.4 was not the same as the 3v 5.4 by any means... I had zero issues with that 97 and it had 255,000 miles on it when I traded it in for the 2013 Ecoboost..

Now, it could be said the Ecoboost engine has it's "issues" too... I've got 46,000 miles on it now and zero issues so far...

Anyway, I'd look at another vehicle if it was me...

I also should say, repairs are nit an issue as I have a full service shop and can do any repair a dealer can do. This would also be the lowest milage vehicle i have ever purchased , i consider that very low milage. I currently have an f150 with over 300k on it... I would like more towing capability for tractors, and vehicles.

 

in my are that truck books on kbb well over what he is asking. however there is not place on kbb for a "rebuilt title"

 

Well, if you have a shop you should know what you are doing. I'd say if the engine is quiet and you think the price is fair, go for it. If the engine is noisy, you might be buying a grenade.
Would be good to know exactly what was repaired when it got the "rebuilt" title.
