2001 F250 v10 ?

Hey , I have seen a 2001 F250 v10 Lariat 146,000,,,,Right now I tow right at 8000 lb with a 2004 F150 5.4 ,,does alright except a for couple NC Long Grade Mountains. Would this 01 250 v10 do a lot better on the mountains ? I sometime get down to 35 mph at the very top,,f150 just runs out of power at the top. There wanting 9800 for the 250...thanks

Friend of mine had a near identical truck to my '02 save for cab lights, steel rims, and a V10. Traded once for a few days, and that V10 pulled almost as good as a PSD, and I think it could pass almost everything but a gas station.

Very true about the gas stations,,,lol. I think the earlier models had less hp,like 270hp,,I'm suppose to have 300 now. How does the v10 do so much better? Thanks alot

The V-10 has more torque than a 5.4. It will tow anything and get about 9 mpg doing it. Only problem is, when not towing it doesn't do much better.

HP is a made up mathematical number. Torque does the work, and where it does that work is the most important. No replacement for displacement, or if you have big money, no replacement for turbo diesels.

So , do you think this is a good deal, I tow camper about 6 times a year.(8000 lb ) I just needed more power and the extra speed going up the long hills..( not 60mph I'm crazy about going fast ) just faster than 30mph.

It will tow that trailer like it's not even back there.

9800 bucks is above book. Which cab, bed, and transmission - and is it 2wd or 4wd?

ok, it's 4x4, Lariat,Auto, Ext cab,,I thought it would do alot better all around even though my f150 5.4 does the job,,,this F250 v10 would do alot better and handle better to , Do you know of anything special I should look at on the f250 ?

V10 will get the job done! I have a 00 that i bought a few months ago and have already put 11k miles on it! Drive it every where.. Pulling 8000lb camper i get right at 10 to 10.3 mpg. Plenty of power at all speed. Hell i was passing a tractor trailer last weekend on i20 and first thing i knew i was doing 85mph at about 1/2 throttle with the fifth wheel.

Running empty around town is 12.0mpg no matter how i drive it..

Running empty down the road at 65 to 70 13.7 to 14.0 mpg

Private party book is about $7500.

Things to look for/expect? The 4R100 isn't the most reliable transmission behind diesels - I don't know how well it holds up behind the V-10. Like the 4.6 and 5.4, it does have occasional spark plug ejection issues, retorque them to 28 ft/lb to help prevent that.

i just purchased a 2000 f250 with a v10 with 148,000 miles that had a bad transmission. it costed 2800 to completely re-build and put in. just keep that in mind if it does go out.

Thats why you go with the 5 speed or 6 speed manual. The ZF5 is a hell of a good tranny.
