What do you consider ESSENTIAL for a in-truck Tool-kit, or Repair Kit?
Just wondering what you guys keep in the trucks for the various emergencies and/or most probable scenario?
Me: Various 10k-20k tow straps and shackles Anything you think would be a good item to carry? Anything PSD specific that would be a great "Just in Case" item?Various small ratchet tie-downs Small Craftsman toolbox (full socket set) Clean Coverall and set of Mechanix Gloves 3 cell maglite Screwdriver set Jumper cables 10" crescent wrench |
I would add a handful of 12" wire-ties. They are useful and don't take up much space. I'd also add a roll of high-quality duct-tape, for the same reason. I've used duct tape to repair a split radiator hose to limp to the parts store.
|
I also have the MAG light. But my Dad gave me a flood light with a 20ft coil cig lighter plug in and has a hook that can be put just about anywhere. Very useful.
|
whats your spare tire setup and jack? That would be something else to add
|
This is normally what I carry in the truck, after typing that list out I know why my truck weighs 8200lbs.....
Mag light Propane torch push button ignition Diesel additive, anti gel and Diesel 911 when it's so cold the anti gel no longer works Craftsman socket set Pliers Multi bit screw driver set Adjustable wrench Gorilla Tape Various rachet straps and bungee's Washer fluid 7 pin to 4 pin light adapter Tape measure 32oz Estwing framing hammer Leatherman Buck Knife Ammo depends on the season and what may be in the truck Full rain gear 3 pairs of gloves, one pair is dedicated to fuel only Estwing Camp ax First aid kit |
^^^ Where are you keeping all of this?

My jack came in a service bag with the jack, lug wrench with assorted sockets, 12v air compressor, and tow strap. The lug wrench is nice too. It's longer than my factory one allowing me to apply more torque without standing on it. My truck has a bedcover so I keep it all in a bag under it. Use to keep it under my screw cab rear seat until the sub went it. |
I have a 48" Hi-lift but i havent decided where to put it this time since i dont have a tool box yet and im not sure if i want one, that and i dont have a bed cover.
My list includes (as of now) 2-D LED Maglite 1/4" and 3/8" Craftsman Pass thru Socket Set 2 6' Ratchet Straps (need to put the longer ones in) Power Inverter Jumper cables (strong enough to start someone else but not me) 20' Tow strap |
This may be obvious, but don't leave home without a cell phone. If you regularly travel where there is no cell service, consider an EPIRB or a sat phone.

I carry a milk crate in the bed, behind the rear seat, and I use the drivers side door pockets as well for gloves and small stuff. I just remembered I carry a small camp spade behind the seat as well.

care to elaborate. down here i always feel like i use the bed of my truck for way too much to have one one there
|
There is nothing I hate more than having to shovel a foot of snow out of the bed to use it in the winter. When it's rolled up I have full use of the bed to hook up the 5er or get my four wheeler in the bed and head to camp. It hides my hitch when I am not towing the 5th wheel and I throw luggage in the bed when we take the truck on trips or keep product dry when I travel to one of our lumber yards. All I have to due is give the release a tug and roll it up, the bows are attached to the cover and the sides are velcro so it's pretty quick to roll up and put back.
Edit: The other nice thing is it gives you added secure storage when the tailgate is locked. |
