2009 f250 v10

looking on trading in my 2009 F150 5.4 for a 2009 F250 V10. I don't tow, or carry any loads, just want more power for the hills. Empty how does the V10 4x4 with 4.10's do on gas? Mostly highway miles, about 100 miles per day.

If you are worried about mileage I wouldn't look at a V-10 they are great engine but if you aren't going to use it tow or haul anything there are some cheaper routes to go instead of buying a bigger truck that wont get the mileage an F150 will. If it were me I would look at getting some custom tunes for your truck and maybe a re-gear. To answer your question from what I have seen you will get 12-14 empty depending on how you drive it and you will be in the single digits when towing.

12-14 with automatic, but what about 6 speed manual? I looked at custom tunes, but with the restrictive emissions on the F150, it wouldn't make much difference and can take away from longevity. I need something that will hold up 250K.

Trying to find a well optioned truck with a manual is going to hard to say the least if that's what you are looking for because most of the time those are going to be found in XL work trucks with limited to no options. I guess I have a silly question why you need a truck with such a large engine and appetite for fuel if you don't tow or haul anything? I had an 04 F150 FX4 SCAB with the 5.4 and it was plenty for me empty and it never even broke a sweat hauling 1600lbs of nails and that tackling some good hills. The only reason I jumped to my F350 PSD is because I didn't have enough tow capacity for a 5er.

If gas mileage is a concern, a Super Duty is not for you.

My V10 will get 14 on the highway empty, and has a ton more power than my '07 F150. It's really up to you whether the extra power is worth it or not.

why not a diesel?

if you do not tow or haul i would just keep your f150. a tune will not ruin the reliability of your motor or drivetrain if the tune is written correctly. keep up maintenance and as long as you dont abuse your truck 250k is a good possibility. there is no reason the f150 wont last 250k.

Anyone of the tuners here can write you a tune for your truck and you will get a million different opinions on who writes the best one. You have three to choose from that visit F150online.

Its not just the power, I also like the solid front axle and conventional steering which is more capable off road. I test drove a V10 auto with 4.10 gears this past Sat, and it has much more power than my F150 up hill. I will look into a tuner, but still am leaning for a super duty.

Its your truck and your money to do with what you want but you are going to take a bath on trading your truck in on a Super Duty. I would keep the truck you have re-gear it to 4.10 put a tuner and intake on it and save for a Super Duty or at least just drive it as is until you wont take a beating on trade

why not supercharge the f150? you'll still save money over buying another truck and you'll have a lot more power.

none available. Are you telling me something is wrong with V10. I'm only loosing $4000 if I trade to super duty, and at a much lower interst rate, so I am about the same.

2010 is last year for this motor, and I don't want to loose out on a possibly great motor.

No there is nothing wrong with the V-10 its a great motor but the only reason I didn't buy one is because of the mileage

If they continued with the 6.0, or didn't include this new particulate filter on the 6.4, I would consider a diesel.

You can do DPF delete on the 6.4L with a tuner and exhaust.
