2003 5.4L F250 Torque Converter Question

I was talking to a guy on my last trip with my travel trailer and he said that Ford torque converters notoriously slip and cause poor gas mileage. I have noticed when I tow that when it down shifts when going up a steep grade there is a feeling of slipping. Is there any truth and if so an easy fix?

Well Phurley, What is your maintenance records reflect on the services done to your trans? Have you followed the required interivals (Most people look right over servicing the trans)? I have never heard of a torque converter slipping, just one breaking, cracking or getting dirt inside causing drivability problems. Usually when your in a pull and carrying a heavy load you want to be out of OverDrive. Burned trans fluid will cause it to slip and unserviced trans will also cause you high $ repairs. You can go to a fully syn trans fluid like I have since I pull quite a bit of weight. Hope this helps!
