Design flaw on the '08's...

I think there is one major design flaw that I really don't care for on the new F250. The 4X4 shift on the fly switch is located directly behind the shifter when the vehicle is in drive. The roads are ice about 5 months out of the year in Fairbanks, and it is common to need to get into 4wd quickly. That shift handle is a bad obstical to have to go around when you could be in a bad situation and need to get into 4X4 quickly. I'm sure it is something I'll get used to, but I've never had that switch obstructed like that before.

My other complaint is the non-power rear slider on all models except lariat. I can't believe they didn't offer that option with all vehicles equipped with a power slider. Guess I'll just have to crawl back there when I'm driving to open the window.

So far those are the only complaints. Hopefully the ride will not suffer, and maybe improve some, when I put the rize lift and 37's on in a couple of weeks. All the parts got in today, including the lift, bilsteen shocks, flares, rims and tires.

Anybody else see any design flaws on the new models?

That 4x4 knob was not only on the wrong place on your truck... but also my Escape. I don't know what Ford's design engineers problems are.

theyre putting them closer to the driver for those naughty nights that when the passenger gets frisky with the driver and starts throwing legs around. ahem nevermind lol
ever thought of relocating it yourself? just an ignorant question i dont know if theres any other good place to put it havnt seen one myself.

if the roads are icy, why not keep it in 4x4 to be safe? Too late when you're starting to slide around.

I guess you could leave it in 4 wheel drive all the time, but I usually only use it at intersections or steep hills. I don't like leaving the truck in 4wd going much over 30mph, so I normally just use it at intersections to get going and going up steeper inclines at slower speeds. Not sure with these trucks if it is a bad idea to cruise along at highway speeds in 4wd.

Screw-Me-05, thanks for that link! :beers: That is something I considered doing, but it'll be down the road a ways.

You can shift into 4wd up to 55 MPH.

Bingo... You can shift into 4x4 at any speed below 55 MPH... You can run it at any speed you'd like basically...

4x4 dont do jack when youre on a sheet of glass! I think ford needs to come out with an auto 4x4 option on the knob. Chevy has a 4x4 switch with 2wd, 4wd auto, 4hi, and 4lo. The auto 4x4 is great in my escape..

The Limited is available with AWD, which is sort of like 4wd auto. I do understand the difference, and there is a huge difference, but I have to agree with you about the 4wd Auto. Our Exploder has three different settings. It has 4wd Auto, 4wd Hi, and 4wd Lo. I can feel the difference when the 4wd automatically kicks in. Coupled with the RSC, it makes for a very confident ride.

With that said, I really don't think that 4wd Auto has any business on a heavy duty vehicle. When hauling or towing, I definitely want to know and be in control of when the truck is in 4wd.

You have to consider the fact that Chevy is also the company that puts IFS on their heavy duty trucks!

Lol, no problems here with my manual 6-speed 08 250. Damn automatics anyways... :D

The only complaints I have are non-power rear door windows (extended cab) and the back seat is not so roomy. Finally, I think that my manual tranny should be geared MUCH lower. 3rd gear has NO BUSINESS going to 97mph (top speed before fuel cut out!). WTF are 4th and 5th for? lmao..... I know why but I hate it.
1st goes to around 35 mph, 2nd to 65mph and 3rd to 97mph. Not the way I want it, I wanna use gas, not get 17 mpg damn it! lol!

Seriously though driving like an OLD LADY I can get 15-17 mpg best, usually its around 13 mpg and Id settle for 10mpg at this point cuz I LOVE THIS TRUCK! So much better ride than my 06 f150! Cant complain about anythign else!!!

I hope they never cut the sticks for diesels... gosh I want one.

Same for my truck... I swear I wish Ford was smart enough to put in 4.10s from the factory. Why offer 3.08s or 3.31s? Like, how can you drive with that gear ratio without burning up your clutch in like a year?! It's a truck...

It's so nice having 4.10s in my F150 with the 5 speed. The 3.55s were driving me nuts... but I could only imagine what 3.08s or 3.31s would have been like!

That was great :)

Manual,

I know that on the f250 the only options Ive seen are 3.55, 3.73, 4.10, 4.30 and 4.5?? theres no 3.31, 3.08 on the bigger trucks, thank god. My truck has the 3.73 unfortunately...
ALTHOUGH, with 2400 lbs of coal in it it was fine.... so maybe its ok. The 15-17mpg highway and 13mpg steady kinda makes it ok too, lol.

The tranny is geared like crap... it really isnt the differentials I believe....There is NO WAY it should go to 97mph in 3rd gear.... it should be geared much lower and then switching to 4.10 + should make it even lower. I really dont think that Ford, in all their infinite wisdom, should offer the 3.73 or 3.55 on a f250+ around here thats ALL I could find with a STICK, SOME V10 autos had 4.10 and ONE really low end f250 was 4.10 stick... I was stuck with the 3.73.

I really dont want to spend a G on regearing either....
