F250 Crew 4x4 V10 vs F250LD SC 5.4L

I'm looking to replace my trusty 220+K mile F250LD SC 5.4L 3.73 LSD and have been thinking that a 00-02 F250SD V10 crew short bed is just the thing. So I test drove an 02 V10 with a 3.73 non LSD rear and about 120K on it today. Versus my current truck, I was surprised that the F250SD didn't feel torquier or quicker than my current truck.

Is this normal, or was the truck I test drove "tired"? The SD felt more like the 4.6L (i.e. more of a revver) that I had in a 2000 Expy I used to own.

I know the SD crew weighs about 1700 more lbs (!!!) than my LD and that the torque peak of the V10 is at 3250 rpm vs 2500 for the 5.4.

Anybody have any real experience with the differences?

Ray

the V/10 is a 5.4 + 2 cylinders, the newer 3v versions of the V/10 have a lot more pep than the 5.4 3v, From my Ford days, I'm convinced the 260 H/P 5.4 performend better than the 5.4 3v.

I would bet the 2000 SD is ready for the grave, even with the extra Lbs the V/10 should go like hell.
