4x4 diesel

Hey guys,

I've been wanting a 4x4 f250 with the 7.3 but I've been told that the 4x4 in the diesel wont do me much good because it's so heavy that it will just sink in mud the first time I take it offroad. Sounds like some 1/2 ton jealousy to me Can any of you diesel 4x4 drivers confirm or refute this?

Thanks

can you even buy a 2wd superduty? j/k
they are very rare to see, at least around here

yes, it will sink in the mud cause its heavy, no differently than say a f150 compared to a ranger, depends more on what you are offroading in, snow, mud, rock crawling, climbing

It'll sink, but nothing major. My F-150 which was 2wd did better in the mud than my 7.3 in 2wd in the mud. Twist the switch, and I'm good to go wherever.

Sounds like a hater to me...the diesel engine is heavier, but not that much heavier. By the way, what makes you want the 7.3L.

Freeky FX4,

My brother-in-law is a ford diesel mechanic and sings the praises of everything Ford. He especially likes the 7.3. As an educator I can't afford to buy a new 4x4 diesel so an 01 or 02 f250 supercrew fits the bill.

Thanks for the input guys. Especially because you said what I wanted to hear.

Think of it this way:

300lb person climbing up a picknick table to get some chicken...

175lb person doing the same thing...

Sure, both can do it, might not be pretty... but can get the job done.

If you have the occasional need to get out of wet grass, or some mud or snow, get 4x4. Also, the SD only looks good in 4x4.

If you want to crawl rocks with ease, play in the deep mud, and play in the tight forest... get a 4x4 SD to pull a Jeep.
