Not sure about Ford uping the antie with chevrolet but they can up the torque and horsepower quite easily. The navistar is made by international and was downgraded from their larger trucks to be compatible with the smaller trucks. The navistar diesel is just like diesel engines in tractors, in that all they have to do to make it more powerful is to install a larger fuel injector pump. So there is no reason to worry about the new chevy diesel out doing the ford, they have plenty of room to to play with the engine, if they can build the tranny and driveshafts to hold up.
From what i read the duramax has a ligh duty allison trans. and shifts real rough. The ford shifts firm but is not jerky.
Point is that ford still has the best line up diesel and gas engines and it is not going to change. Besides it took chevrolet 12 years to finally get a decent diesel.

FORD is going to be dropping the 7.3 psd for a smaller and lighter 6.0 the 7.3 weighs in at 1100 lbs and the 6.0 will weigh 800 lbs that is a big difference. the 6.0l will have more power and tork the the one now I don't know how much more, they are also going to make a 4.9l for the f150 i don't know much about this one but from what i have herd it will hav somewhere around 200 horse and 400 ft/lbs so that might be a fun motor.. i get ford mortor updates and it was in this months update..latter all

Just like MN99 stated, it is widely known that the 7.3 is being replaced by a 6.0L V-8. It WILL have SIGNIFICANTLY higher hp AND torque than ANYTHING ELSE in the market. In addition to the power, the noise levels will be significantly lower than any of the competitors.

The problem, however, lies in the transmission. Currently, no Ford transmission can be mated to it.

The new 6.0L PSD will have 300 hp and 550 ft/lb of torque. Ford is currently working on a new 5r110 auto trans to handle the torque. The new V6 4.5L is scheduled to appear in the F150 & Expedition with about 225 hp and 400-450 ft/lb torque. The new 6.0L will be quieter than the Duramax.

The new PSD will not have camless technology- there are way to many bugs to be worked out of that system before it will make it into production!!!

ca had new 2001 emmision laws from what i've heard no diesles besides like vw (maybe some others) can be sold there, one of the new ps is supposed to use camless technology so that they can pass the emission laws so that ford can be the first to have a diesel pickup pass 01 ca emmissions, i guess time will tell

The camless technology at International has not even seen a 'V' application yet. The only prototype engine that camless technology was implemented in was an inline six (466).
