People with expys and lightning rims ->

Lemme know what size tires you are running and if you have a picture of your truck post it.

I'm picking up a set on monday in silver, still trying to decide what size tires to put on it.

Right now I'm looking at 285-60-18's in a Yoko AVS (I've not to rain or snow to deal with). Which is gonna be about ~1" taller then a 255-70-16's on the EB now. Any other recommendations in tires. Or maybe even rims. However, I got a hook up on the rims so.. kinda hard to pass up.

I just want to fill out the wheel wells better without having to lower the truck or go with some giant bling bling dubs.

I had a set of authentic Lightning wheels with Michelin Pilots 285/60/18. The Michelins were great tires. I wrote "had" because I recently sold my Exp. in anticipation of getting a 2003.
I've also owned the Yoko AVS and they were terrible. Wore quickly and became very noisy at 8,000 - 10,000 miles. Do a search on this board and you'll see lots of similar comments regarding the Yokos.
Be sure you check the clearance between your tires/rims and the brake line bracket (front only). You may have to bend them back, file down the sharp corner of the bracket, and replace the square head bolt with a round bolt.

Im running the Michelin Pilot LTX in 285/55/18. They ride really good! Here are a few pics for ya:https://www.f150online.com/galleries...1686-19789.jpg https://www.f150online.com/galleries...1686-19691.jpg https://www.f150online.com/galleries...1686-19689.jpg

KAsin - thanks for the heads up, I was going with them because thats all anyone has in stock locally.. I'll order something else.

Skankdog - nice looking truck.

anyone know what the max tire size that'll fit on a 9.5" rim? since it's not a car, and handling isn't that important, you can go a little larger then you might otherwise. 305-55 squeeze on them?

305/50/22's will fit-

Considering that 305/50/22's will fit, I'm certain the 305/55/18's will.

For my bling-bling dibs, I will add on 305/55/20's on my next spin. These 275/55/20's fill the well some, but not as much as I would like. I don't want to lower the truck, but in order to acheive the aggressive stance I want- I may have to.

Is that truck 2wd or 4wd?

I'm considering the 20" lightning replicas. I just don't want to have any clearance issues (2wd eb).

Truck looks great btw.

I just ordered a set of 18" Lightnings with 305-55-18 Nittos.
Should be here before friday.

Truck is 2WD

Truck is 2WD- So is the Expy.

It sits kinda high, huh? I definitely have to get this puppy lowered. With the 20's I didn't think the 4/2 drop was an option, but......

Skank Dog

Hey Skank, did your tire/wheel setup change your speedometer much? I got the same ride you do, and would love to change over to the Lightning wheels.

Nice Ride,
Lite

Skank Dog 06-13-2002 01:02 AM

Liteman- Nothing changed! The wheel/Tire combination I have on there kept the exact same ride height as the stock wheels and tires. Thats why I went with the 285/55/18's, I didnt want to change the gearing, speedo, rpm's, etc. from factory settings. Any other size tire would have changed everything. You cant really tell from the pics, but these Michelin's are WIDE!!! It rides so smooth and quiet, best tires Ive ever owned. They are expensive though. I bought the wheels from www.karkraft.com and got the tires from discount tire. You should put a set of these on yours, we've had lots of compliments on them, really sets the Expy off!:D I also installed the 01 Lightning headlamps and corners if ya didnt notice. That helps the looks also.

Thanks for the compliment! Goodluck on yours! If ya have any more questions, feel free to contact me. There are more pics of it and my Lightning in the F150 galleries under "Skank Dog".

Thanks

Thanks for the info. I am glad to hear that nothing changed with the new setup. I am now even more excited about changing over to the Lightning wheels. Can't wait to come up some extra CASH!!!

I didn't notice the lightning headlamps at first, but they look sweet also.

Hey Edamon, can we get a PIC to see the new rims & tires in a side by side comparision with the OEM to show size diff?:D

Skank Dog 06-14-2002 10:41 AM

edoman-You are probably gonna have a rub problem!!:( These 285's rub just slightly on the drivers side rear. There is a square plastic type cover on the frame rail at each rear tire that they make contact with. For some reason only the drivers side rear rubs the tire when going into or coming out of a steep incline, even rubs on some overly large speed bumps you go over. Im not sure what that cover is, but you may be able to cut some of it off, I just havent taken the time to do so because its note that bad with these 285's. Those 305's may give you more of a problem! Hope this helps!
