VSS or Vehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction.
I'm having trouble with my 2001 Expedition XLT 4x2 I went to a Ford shop and have it scanned. Error code is P0500 VSS malfunction.
My complain was lost of power and weird shifting specially when incline position Intermittently. I thought it was the fuel pump coz it feels like it. This trouble code doesn't show in my scanner also no check engine.
Where the Vehicle Speed Sensor located? What makes it malfunction?
What does a VSS do? Does it have anything to do with the transmission?
Thanks in Advance.

Most electronic transmissions (almost any new trans since 1990) uses the signal from the throttle postion sensor (tps), and the vehicle speed sonsor (vss) to determine what gear to put the transmission in. As far as loctation goes, they're *normally* close to the tailshaft on you transmission.

Thanks for replying. TPS and VSS are in the same position? TIA
PS any idea what makes it malfunction?
