steers too easy

i just bought an 01 expy awd with 88,000mi the steering is real touchy kinda like there is no weight over the wheels just a slight move of the steering wheel and the truck wants to go that way but after about a 1/4 turn it has a little more tension in it and feels normal to me. Is this the normal feel of the steering on these, all of the other vehichles ive owned it takes a little bit more effort to turn the steering wheel.

I love the steering... I drive my moms 03 Exploder and I have to use my hand to turn the truck... with My Expy I use my finger...

be careful in 4X4... our radius is cut down by like 90%. easy steering makes it hard to remember that

steering box is worn out. a steering box has over-center resistance to prevent this, once the box wears this resistance is gone and you end up with the problem you have.

thank you i'll have to look into this, i thought it felt too touchy just wasn't sure what would cause it. everything else in the steering causes it to be less responsive

10 years ago when I bought my Expy I thought the same thing, it did take a little getting used to but once you get it down you'll love like that.

An adjustment to the alignment could help a little. It may be out of spec already.

Couple esy things to check, would be alignment and front tire pressure.

got it figured out, while i was changing the oil filter i noticed that someone had unplugged a connector from the power sterring pump. It now has some resistance in the steering like i'm use to. I also found a broke sway bar link luckily o'reily's was still open and had a set of Moog polyurethane sway bar links. It handles great now.
