Another Bullet Thread

So I've came across some cash and have been posting all over the forums doing projects to my truck. Getting my e-fans done soon and then hopefully my exhaust next.

I currently have a 2001 screw with the 5.4L

I have stock manifolds, all 4 stock cats, and a 3" y-pipe Flowmaster Exhaust that is dumped

I've been wanting for the life of me to get true duals.

thinking of going with an x-pipe right after the cats, to 2 Dynomax Bullets dumped after the rear axle. Will that be a significant difference in noise, and performance than my exhaust now? Also will be using 2.5" piping.

OR

will the 3" SI/SO Dynomax Bullet be louder and performance wise better than the first set up?

Are there different length bullets or are they all the same?

And is the Magnaflow X-pipe still a good pipe to use?

thanks everyone!

Remove the term 'performance' from yer verbage as niether will offer any improvements in that regard.

In point of fact 2.25" mandrel would be best and will actually preserve low-end grunt on the dualie system.

You need to get rid of the stock Y on yer 2001 in any case - that's JOB #1. It's the single largest restriction to flow velocity on these model years - it's horrendous.
To do that for a single system, you'd use this: http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi...atalogno=10778
The x-pipe takes care of that problem for you , if going dual.

A nice clean SISO flow-through system will do yall proud, unless yer totally convinced you absolutely-gotta-must-fixated over a dualie

BTW - have ye seen ol' Dewser's new exhaust? He's been walkin' around with a third leg ever since https://www.f150online.com/forums/ex...s-concern.html

PS - which fans and controller y'all decided on? Yall have been lax in keepin' that thread updated

I think I am gonna go with a Lincoln Mark Viii fan if I can find one and a DCC controller. If not then probably a Derale 16" x2 and either a DCC or Painless depends on how patient I am

As for the exhaust if I went with 2.25" mandrel bent would I need to get a 2.5" to 2.25" x-pipe? Are the manifolds and cats on 2.5" stock piping?

And I'm stumped between a bullet or magnapack.

I want a loud exhaust with nice tone.

I don't think you can go wrong with either Borla, Bullets or Magnapacks..

The X-pipes are the same in/out; either 2.25" or 2.5". So - reduce either before or after the x-Pipe. I don't really have a preference here - perhaps someone else does?

The stock sizing for all OEM stuff is 2.5"

Borla will be in my next truck. That's a pricy system to put on my old truck lol.

so I will have to get a 2.5" x-pipe and the shop can reduce the rest of the piping after the x-pipe to 2.25"?

Also the shorter the muffler the louder correct?

borla xr-1's are that much more? Sorry - did not know this.

yep - or you can get the 2.25" version and reduce between the cats and the 'x'.

So I'm about to buy these following items.

Think I'm just gonna stick with 2.5" piping.
X pipe
2 magnapacks
dumped after rear axle.

here's the parts I'm getting

x-pipe:

Mufflers:

Good choice? I'm about to put the order in now

Looks like you're on the right track!

Just keep in mind that running the dumps will actually decrease the volume of the exhaust outside of the truck while increasing it substantially on the inside. They will also increase the amount of interior drone. Not a big deal for some fellers, just wanted to make sure you knew that going in.

Also, you'll get a 'megaphone' effect if you get larger tips. IMHO, this is definitely a good thing! I wouldn't go bigger than 4x18 or 4x24.

I didn't notice a decrease in low-end torque when I went with 2.5" pipes. Not that I disagree with what MGD says about using larger diameter pipes in a true dual configuration...not at all! And since I didn't do any dyno pulls, I'm not saying I didn't technically lose a little torque. I'm just saying the ol' butt dyno didn't notice it. I attribute that to the Gryphon, and have no problem with the idea that, without the Gryphon, I might have encountered a noticeable decrease in torque.

You'll love the Magnapacks!

My current setup is dumped I don't mind it

As far as the low end I don't have a tuner so will I notice a difference with the 2.5" system as opposed to my 3" SI/SO in the lower end?

^ Dual 2.5 will hurt your low-end to some degree. It doesn't bother me at all, and I pull a 14' horse trailer that is 7' tall on the inside.

If you pull a heavy trailer on a regular basis and want MAX torque, then go dual 2.25" or a 2.5-3" SISO. If not, then you will get used to the minimal loss in no time.

Ok you guys got the best of me. Damn you all!! haha

I just went off the deep end and bought all my exhaust parts.

Decided to go with tips so I bought the 4x18 45 degree cut and gonna have them exit the back at 45's.

got 2 Magnapacks for 109.28
the x-pipe 68.37
and the two tips for 86.98

total of 264.63 before I counter offered all them the original price was around ~$310

I hope so. I hope they're loud enough with my stock cats and manifolds.

I'm still in my twenties so noise isn't an issue. The louder the better

Well, we converted anuther'n!

You'll really dig it, man! Trust me.

It's loud enough (especially when it all gets broken in), but the main thing you'll enjoy, if you have any kind of ear for this sort of thing, is the super-swell, far-out, groovy, bassy, balsy, tone to the exhaust note.

IMHO (and I'm not against the sound of Fartmasters), there really is no comparison between the two, tone-wise. I've just now started listening to music while I drive again, but I still prefer listening to the exhaust.

Congrats, man! Let us know how it turns out. Vidyas and pitchers are a must!
