New Member & New Muffler SI/SO 2.5

Hey guys, I have been lurking on here for a while. I just recently traded in my 05 F150 and got an 06 5.4l Supercab. The only things I have done so far are new grill and muffler. After reading for hours on here trying to figure out what muffler to go with I decided on a 14" oval magnaflow si/so 2.5in and leave everthing else stock. When I went in to get it installed it was suggested to me that I go with an Xlerator 14" oval body muffler. The shop had both mufflers in stock, but the guy told me I would hardly notice any difference in sound other than the magnaflow being made of stainless steel. He showed me the insides of both and they seemed to be made mostly the same. I live in Oregon so I don't get any salt on the roads where I live and he said since I thought I would only have the truck maybe 5-6 years and about 70k miles it wouldn't make much difference. I'm pretty happy with the results. I got the Xlerator muffler installed for $125. I posted a couple pics in my gallery of it. The muffler has a nice deep rumble to it when at a cold start or when you really gas it from a stop, but not to loud overall and only a slight bit of drone while going up hill or just before the AT shifts. My truck also only has 2 Cats which I thought was wierd since it seems everyone with 04 and newer has 4 cats, but I dont know much about it other than what I have read on here.

^ That doesn't sound half bad for $125. If I may make a suggestion though... Cut the stock tail pipe back and have a 18x3.5" stainless tip welded in. It will give you a deeper a better growl to it.

Another Oregonian...
neighbor

Sounds pretty good. A little crackly for such short revs.... Didnt think it would be that loud for a 14" oval body but not bad.

Thanks for the comments! I didn't have a tip done yet because I was waiting until I decided if I wanted it louder and have the shop run the tailpipe exit in front of the rear tire with a nice 3.5in rolled tip.

Make that a dual tip in front of the rear tire and call it good. That will open her up some and give you a better tone as well.
