Smile Two Intake Questions

Hey everybody I have a couple questions that I need help with regarding intakes.

I know I should search and I have, I just spent the last hour looking at tons of intakes.

My first question is which intake would be the best investment for my 2001 F150 5.4L? I remember a while back the Airforce One intakes from Troyer performance were good. I am leaning towards one of those right now. Any other suggestions?
Here's a link in case anyone needs to take a look:
http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi...atalogno=16408

2nd, with the addition of an intake will my exhaust sound any better? I've heard of people saying that once they added an intake that their exhaust became louder and sounded better. Of course it was an aftermarket exhaust as well.

Thanks everyone very much for your input.

Hi & Welcome!

The AF1 is extinct - they are outta bidness.

Check out the Tech Articles section for some ideas - the Gotts mod may be all you need. Almost free too. https://www.f150online.com/forums/articles-how-tos-119/

Other choices include S&B and Airraid, but it's a lot of $$ for very little gain.

Some folks insist their exhausts sound better - some don't notice anything.

I cannot say how much of that is wishful thinking or a placebo effect

Have the gotts mod right now, but I have the extra cash now to install a legit air intake system.

sucks the airforce one is gone. I like the design of the S&B, what about volant?

There's just so many options I just want the best one ya know?

The thing is, on a stock truck, a 'legit' intake is still largely 'bling' . If that's yer goal, go for it. Otherwise, that dinero is best directed to something with proven and discernable gains -a custom programmer.

I do NOT recommend Volant - not even to Chebbie owners . They melt. They croak above 4,000 rpm.

What may seem like a waste of money to you, isn't to me.

My next investment after the intake was gonna be a tuner.

If you plan on getting custom tunes and are looking to squeeze out every last bit of HP from your truck, then the Gotts mod would be the best way to go. After talking with Corey at PHP I was convinced to do the Gotts mod instead of installing an aftermarket CAI. According to PHP, any performance gains from an aftermarket CAI are negated with custom tunes. With the Gotts, or DVM mod in my case, the gains remain after adding custom tunes. Check out forum.gopowerhungry.com and you should see several threads on the subject. If you want a CAI for the looks then go for it, they do look pretty badass IMO.

Whatever you decide on, you still live in California, so you will need an intake with a California Air Resources Board Executive Order Number. Your truck still needs to be "California Legal". This really limits our options. A lot of parts just aren't CA legal. I have an Airaid in my F-150 & a K&N in my Explorer. Both came with CARB EO stickers.

x2

I dont remember the name of the company right now but you can buy a peice that replaces the intake track between the throttle body and the sensor. You retain factory specs and tuning but get the aftermarket look. I'll get the company later tonight when I get home.

you ever heard the phrase "a fool and his money are soon parted"??????

I made the switchfrom a K&N CAI to the gotts intake mod and found my truck performed better with the gotts...

good luck on your decisions in life, and if you want your truck sucking in hot air then by all means get your beloved intake that no one can see when you are driving, something tells me you don't go to car shows and you very rarely open your open your hood so you need something that works VS looks blingy
