What's involved in this...?

Hi guys!

So i think instead of replacing my leaking manifolds with shorties, i will just have them patched (money). But i do want to put on a Magnaflow 12198 OR Magnapack muffler (with tips), and eventually an X pipe. High flow cats are out of my range right now.

Will that sound good? AND what's involved in the install? Do i need special adapter pipes? If i go piece by piece will it be worthwhile...ie. put muffler on first with a tip, then the X pipe a few months down the road? Or do it all at once?

Also, if i go magnapack, do most just keep it SI/SO, or throw a Y pipe on to make it dual?

you only need a X pipe if you are running true dual pipes.

if you want dual tips they put a Y after and run 2 tips..if not keep it SI/SO

HA! Good to know - kept reading all these posts talking about how an X pipe will improve flow and sound - never noticed it was only for true duals! Thanks for that! (good too, because they're crazy expensive for all they are)

if you ever want to do true duals go on ebay and search for the x pipe for 25 bucks..if i ever get rid of my H pipe ill get one of those

after looking they arent really that expensive..you must have looked at the ones on Jegs

Yeah, those are WAY cheaper...i had looked at Magnaflow's website - said around $100! I thought that was a bit nuts, seeing as the muffler isn't much more than that.

I have a question about Magnapacks, for those who have them: are they kinda raspy/sputtery? The vids i've seen sound that way, but hard to tell if it's just maybe the video quality! I want a deep growl, with no popping/sputtering.

Thanks!

^ Then you want Borla! That is what I like about them so much. No rasp pop crackle, just deep Borla tone!

Watch sig videos for more info...

Those look like two Magnaflow Y pipes with the outlets welded together..

Those Borlas sound pretty good! I've done a ton of searching on youtube, but the problem is that all the setups seem to start with "true dual..." - so it's kinda hard to get an idea on what it would sound like as muffler alone!

It will be very similar. The actual tone of the muffler will be about the same, but it will sound different in duals... if that made any since at all. lol

The higher performance maggies and Borlas wont sound very different...both are straight-through design with packing. Frankly the Borla you are just paying more for the 304 vs 409 stainless.
