CAI's Bad for engine?
 

Here is a theory I want to throw out there, If CAI's let more air in the engine shouldn't that let more dirt particles in, potentially harming your engine?

(if this has been discussed before feel free to ignore/flame me)

That's why they come with a giant cone filter. As long as you don't leave any clamps loose, you shouldn't have to worry about dirt getting into your motor.

Thats is what I was thinking, but my soon to be father-in-law hates CAI's based on that aurguement. (He is a mechanic, runs the Local FD maintenance). I never really bought into it but was just wondering.

they test the CAI filters like no 2 morro before they sell them they say its like 99.99 effect vs like .0001 dirt particals or somthing...thats pretty freakin small. they cant say 100% because if it protected 100% then no air could get in either lol. i went muddin with my open element CAI and the truck ran fine even those the filter was caked in mud. took the pipe apart no water in side and also i felt the inside of the filter it wasnt damp at all the outside was soaked thoe so they did there homework on these filters ;)

I guess he also doesn't understand the concept of a filter. His assumption is based on the fallacy that all filters perform exactly the same in terms of the amount of dirt let through per unit of air. This isn't true or else there wouldn't be so many different brands of air filters.

No. The filters aren't made out of paper and are much better in terms of filtering.
