Exhaust Q's.....

PLEASE don't get mad at me, because I'm new to this whole exhaust thing. I've never done anything to my cars exhaust wise, and have zero knowledge of what it takes.

So I'm looking at a Magnaflow DI/DO kit for my 2006 Lariat, and also looking at Pacesetter Long Tubes. What about cats? Will I need new cats with this setup? Any suggestions on which ones would work best with what I have?

I am on a budget so I really am looking for the most bang for my buck here.

Thanks,
Chris

For the most "bang for your buck" I'd honestly just swap the muffler out.. It'd probably be less than $100 installed.

EDIT--- I guess you are going for power here? In that case just put the long tubes on, they will replace your cats and then you can run whatever exhaust you want after that.. Exhaust alone really doesnt make much of a power difference. The headers will probably give you 15-20 horses though.

someone may correct me if im wrong but if ur gunna go with that setup the yes, hi flows is reccomended and will help alot.. i dont think u can use the facotry cats with the LTs without modification so just get the hi flows.. with a setup like that u might as well get the most out of it by using hi flows.. almost everyone if not everyone will tell u not to do with di/do and get 2 separate si/so mufflers and make your setup "true duals". what you will need parts wise are the headers, high flow cats, x pipe, mufflers, tips, and piping which a shop can provide for you.. this will be the best setup to run.. 2.5'' should be the best size to run(correct me if im wrong).. i understand ur on a budget. what is it roughly? we all undertand budgets but we want to give u the best possible advice.. as for the brand cats, magnaflow all the way man... look around.. i bought mine from Troyer performance for $90 ea.. the headers run about 300, x pipe is about 35, piping and installation around 200 maybe, not sure.. hopefully that helps. let me/us kno if we can help you further.. Wow, thanks so much for your help. I was expecting to get called some names before getting anywhere with this.

I would really like to stay under $1k for all the exhaust, because I still need to buy a CAI and tuner.

i was in ur shoes back in 05 man.. i kno how u feel bo.. you should be able to run true duals for around 800... a couple of people just did the same.. look around this foruma nd aftermarket forum and ask them.. they should be pretty helpful but it does depend where u take ur truck.. if u can find a little old side mufler shop that has tubing and can weld that would be ur best bet. otherwise a few friends said meineke did a good job but some dont like to touch the headers.. they can do everything else tho.. look into that..

as for cai, get the AF1 (air force 1) from troyer performance.. not sure if u have 4.6 or 5.4 but ur looking at 305 or 399 for the intake... you wont be dissapointed trust me.. so save up.. and do all your bolt ons first and then get ur tuner tuned for all ur mods to give u the best possible gains.. Yup, I've been looking at the AF1 since I bought my truck. As far as the tuner goes, I'm going to most likely get the Gryphon from PHP, and I'll use the stock programs until I get all my mods done, then use the voucher for the 3 custom tunes.

sounds good.. dont kno anything about that tuner but ive heard about it.. if it has cusom tunes ur good to go.. good luck man.. keep us all updated.. let me kno if i can help

We wont pounce on you for questioning, no worries there.

The Magnaflow DI/DO is one of the best mufflers you can get of that configuration. The Magnaflow DI/DOs have an internal X in them and perform much better than a dual muffler setup. It just doesn't have that sweet true dual sound.

You seem to be looking into a nice loud performance exhaust. Pacesetter LTs, Magnaflow Hi-Flow Cats, and an 18" body Magnaflow should be pretty good, or for some more loudness, the 14" body muffler.
