$1000 LABOR to install High Flows!?!?

Went up to see my normal exhaust guy, who is also a Magnaflow Authorized Dealer. What I thought was a simple job to remove 4 cats, install 2 high flows after the first sensors, pipe up the gap after the second sensors (where the other 2 cats used to be) and call me to pick it up.

He quoted me $800 to $1000 labor, I already have the cats.

He also told me there was a 75% chance I'd throw a code.

Is this typical sticker shock, or is this guy a little too PROUD of his work?

Said he'd run me true duals for $450, reusing the maggie I already have. This seems more in line, your thoughts?

get a few other quotes? ...if he's got the market cornered... then it probably seems reasonable to him.

that's crazy high.!!!!!!!!!! It is a pain in the ass to do i hear. but the shop down the road from work from me charged me about $225. I supplied the cats and I kept the old ones.

Which I got $190 for at the salvage yard.

I would shop around..................

Way overpriced! Shop around some more...

2nd Quote $250, and they keep the old cats. Still shopping...At least we're getting somewhere.

I brought in 2 14" round Maggies with 2 Hi-flow cats and an x-pipe. They charged me 200 for labor, piping, and 3.5" slant tips angled.

You're getting ripped off

I wouldn't be getting ripped off unless I actually agreed to let him do it. Notice I said he "quoted me" not "invoiced me." LOL

he is tring to get his money somw how most shops make money is by parts and you didn't get your parts from him so he is grumpy.

wayyyy to high. I got all 4 cats cut out, 2 hiflows installed, plus 4 new O2 sensors for $300. I supplied all the parts so it was just labour. They had a hard time getting the front O2s out.And I got the old cats back. Wherever you take it insist on getting the old cats back. I got $200 for my 11 yr old cats from a scrap metal dealer.

you got a hell of a deal.

I'm guessing the exhaust guy knew you already somehow though.:beers:

DarrenWS6 07-18-2008 01:03 AM

$200 is the maximum it should cost you. Tell him no thanks and search for another shop.
