Q's about AF1 and upcoming inspection
 
I need to take the truck in for inspection next week, 15K service, both will be done at the dealer.

The only mods on my truck are a borla cat-back (no worries there), and a 3" AF1 cai. Both of these have been added since my last trip to the dealer.

I'm in Austin, Tx.. Travis county. They've just started doing emissions testing in the past 2 years. This is the first time since then that I've needed to renew inspection.

1) will my truck pass inspection with the AF1? There's no "CARB" sticker for it, isn't that a California standard? Would it apply to me here?

2) My dealership has been nothing but great with me so far, but what are the odds of them seeing the AF1 and gettin' weird about it?

I can put the stock intake back on if needed, not a problem.. but what are y'alls opinions on this? Do I need to put the stock back on?

you should have gotten a sticker when you purchased it....im sure if you print out something stating that it is CARB legal you wont get to much grief...

the sheet that came with my AF1 says that it is NOT carb legal...it says that it is in testing in order to become carb legal.

which sucks cuz here in colorado we have emission testing...i haven't put it on yet because i will need to renew my registration soon, which is when i will need to get the vehicle tested.

C.A.R.B. is a California standard, you only need to worry about a carb cert if you live out there in la-la land.
BTW carb stands for California Air Research Board

our emission laws are are pretty strict but probally not quite as strict as CA. i am not going to put it on and fail, then pay another 30bucks to have it retested...back when i had my ranger, i failed an emission test because of my gas cap.

Most states wont bother you. I now NY inspection, plugs into your computer and if there isnt a service engine light you wont have a problem. 1995 and older still go on a dyno here to check emmisions. It depends also on the visual inspections and here there isnt a problem.

Well, I'm on vacation this week, had nothing else to do this afternoon so I went ahead and put the stock intake back on.. hey, it was something to do.. lol

The growl is gone, the git-up-and-go is gone.. :(

Figured it's an opportunity to clean the AF1 filter, so I'm doing that.

That AF1 is sure as hell going back on as soon as I get back from the dealer tomorrow!

In Texas for our year trucks all they do for the emissions test is hook up to the computer and make sure no codes have been thrown. It will pass the visuall test because it is not a thermostatic type air cleaner. Mine pasted just fine when I had my AF1 on there and a set of long tube headers and true dual exhaust.

Huitt, did you take in to the dealer? Mine's never thrown any codes either, was just mainly worried about the dealer givin' me a hard time warranty-wise - still have 3 years left under warranty. Btw, got the inspection and 15k service today, almost $250 :eek:

You don't even want to know what it cost in Arizona... I bought my truck there and they charged me $572.83 JUST FOR THE REGISTRATION for 1 year!!! I have since then moved to Texas and my registration is about $72 per year. That's insane that Arizona can bend people over like that!!!

Holy crap!! Do they tell ya the breakdown as far as where all that money goes? Here in Tx it's like 50% for the registration itself and 25% for "bridge maintenance fees" (depending on the county), and the rest to the DPS retirement fund.

Move to florida...... no inspections at all but just about everyone here has a brand new vehicle including me woo hoo but in new york where im from holy moly was it ridiculious but if you knew the inspector and waved some green you were fine.:rocker:
