AF1 3" and 3.5" who sells either and whats the differnece?

is the 3.5" AF1 a custom buy from somewhere or is it sold under both configurations?
i looked on Brute's site and did not see anything specifically talking about the 2 different sizes.

i have seen on the site that a 3.5" would require a programmer for the PCM

any help to clear me on this would be appreciated.

The 3" AF1 doesn't require any tuning to your engine, the 3.5" very likely does. Check out www.troyerperfomance.com or www.airforceoneperformance.com

Better yet call that phone number on Troyer's site and ask them about both.

Actually, I believe ANY 3.5" intake will require tuning, so even if you go AEM best to check with them and ask about lean conditions with a 3.5". If they say "naw, not a problem..", they either don't know or are lying.. lol..

Let us know what ya decide to go with.

Knowledge is good.

AF1 all the way!

since Troyer says its the best and his custom tunes are built around it(among a few others)then thats what ill go with. just dont know what pros there are by getting the 3.5" so ill be on the horn in the AM to find out straight from the horses mouth.

thanks

I don't think you can go wrong with that!

The reason I went with the 3" was that I couldn't afford the custom tunes at the time, tho I couldn't be any happier than I am with the AF1 that I have!

The 3.5" does have better performance, only caveat is requiring tunes. I'll be ordering the Xcal II from Troyer in early June and if the 3.5 is the way to go with his tunes then I'll order up that as well..

The mod bug is an insidious thang.. I figured intake, exhuast, tunes, that's enough.. now I'm thinking about 4:10 gearing.. LOL..

You could probably go as high as you want with custom tuning, $$ wise.. Troyer's Xcall II however is about $450 with three custom tunes written for YOUR specific vehicle. You fill out a worksheet with all the information that is unique to your vehicle, send that back to Troyer, and then he writes tunes for your vehicle and no other. This is as opposed to the Edge, Diablo, etc., nothing against them at all - many here love their Edge - which has what are called "canned" tunes, meaning for example, "good for any 2004-2007 Ford 5.4L, 3V". Kinda a generic thang.
I'll be going with Troyer's custom tunes on a Xcal II in the next couple of weeks. An Edge Evo with "canned" tunes costs as much as Troyer's custom tunes nowadays anyhow..

Aloha,
just wondering if there is a significant difference in performance between the 3" and 3.5". i would love the option to return to stock with the 3" in case my girlfriend puts in the "cheapest octane". but id hate to order custom tunes and not really fell a difference because i chose the 3". any major difference?

You can get a very nice performance tune for 87 octane. I make right at 250/315 on 87 with 35" tall tires on 17x9 wheels which are a killer.

i asked the same question yesterday when i called troyer and what i was told by the young lady is that it makes about an 8HP difference but that it does require the custom tunes otherwise you get the error for it being too lean.

resale value

i know i went with the 3" strictly because if i ever do resell it ill be able to get rid of the 3" faster since not everyone is running custom tuning and or programmers but... im sure i would have enjoyed the extra HP.
