Gibson Super Truck Exhaust Q's

I just got my 01 F-150 Supercrew 5.4L 3 days ago, and I am already wanting a deeper exhaust note

I have heard a lot of good thing about the Gibson Exhausts, so I will probably go with them.

I am interested in an exhaust that is just a little louder than stock, but I don't want to make the ride too loud.
(I like the quiet ride of my new truck)

My main concern is gas mileage.. If I couple a K&N air filter and a Gibson super truck exhaust together, will I gain any MPG?

I use my truck for daily driving to work and what-not and for hauling my jon boat and trailer.. and my trailer and ATV.
(boat/atv are both under 1000 lbs, so I will not be doing any heavy duty hauling.)

I'd like to keep the price under 300 dollars, so it looks like Gibson.
If Gibson's will not give me any MPG, which exhaust do you recommend?

Yea, yea, If I wanted good gas mileage, I shouldn't have got a truck Spare me the lecture please lol (I don't care if I gain any MPG, I just don't want to lose any)

Hi there! I had a gibson catback dual pipes out the back on my truck and frankly it was a waste of money. The exhaust note was virtually unchanged, and I may have even lost torque. To add insult to it all......it started rusting out within 6 months. Granted I chinced out and got the "aluminized" instead of stainless, but I have nothing good to say about that exhaust. Fast forward to now.......

I have a Magnaflow single out catback stainless, and it sounds deep and aggressive, louder but not too loud, and doesn't drone on the highway. I've also gained a touch of throttle response and seat of the pants enjoyment.

I don't really like to rain on any company's parade, but when I got rear ended, and broke a piece off my gibson......they wouldn't even try to help me get the part I needed......but wow would they love to sell me a whole new piece of junk.

Save yourself the grief.......get the Goods!!!

Unhappy

I can't speak specifically about the Super Truck system, but I have heard that it is the loudest of all the Gibson systems.... It exits in front of the pass side rear tire and is a dual outlet setup.

I had the Gibson Swept Side. It's a 3" single that exits in the stock location. I can say it's better then the stock setup and you should not "lose" any tq. It's got a tad bit of rumble at idle and while driving over stock (but it's still very quiet).... It did not sound like a vacuum cleaner at WOT like the stock one did.....

Two year later, the Gibson developed a rattle. One of the baffles came loose inside (aluminized). I just had the muffler replaced with a Flo Pro. So far it's far surpassed all the Gibsons "improvements" I had over stock. I have more low end tq (seat of the pants dyno... ) and it has a better tone and rumble to it that's still not obnoxious and no drone either....

Can't say I'm getting any better mpg, but it's not any worse....

Good luck!

Mitch

I had one on my 2001 SCrew, and it was nice. I took it off with the option of a Bassani duals ( cat back for a L ), and it was like night and day. The ST over the stock was nice, but once I went with the duals, it was the next step.

I have a DI/DO MagnaFlow that I am going to put on shortly, as the sound from the Bassani is killing me on highway driving, it is a NASCAR Truck series approved xhst note.

Go with the MagnaFlow, if you don't care about where the system exits at, just replace the stock muffler, not a bad cheap change over for the note. If you keep the exit in the stock location, it won't change the cab noise level that much. If you do the exit in front of the rear tire, it will change the cab noise level.

Like I said the Bassani is a very nice system, but the noise is killing me

Good luck.

Thanks for all your input..

I talked to my local exhaust guy and he pretty much said Gibson exhausts were junk..

He told me to go with these exhausts (his stock) :
Magnaflow
Flowmaster
Flo Pro
V-Force
Raven

He told me he would set me up with a Flowmaster 40 Series, aluminum pipes, all new hangers and chrome tips all welded for 320 installed. He said besides the Magnaflow, this exhaust would hold up the best and still remain mildly quiet.
