Whats this noise?
Whats this noise?
So ive this really werid noise for about a year i thought it was the EGR valve opening but its blocked off so i dont understand what it is it goes HUNNNNNNNNNN coming from the engine the RPM's pick up and the truck goes like 5-10mph without me touching the gas im thinking it some kind of vac. leak when i hit the gas the noise goes away i caught a video of it doing it and also me hitting the gas to get rid of it...any ideas? a bad IAC? truck idles at about 500RPM in drive after its warm about 700RPM in park or neutral. Heres the vid any help would help alot.

sounds like a noisy e-fan to me. you do have efans right? never heard a vacuum leak that loud but its still possible i guess.
edit: is it only while your driving? could you possibly get a vid while looking under the hood?

yes i have a big Lincon E-fan but its on a direct switch i control when it turns on the truck cant turn it on. and my E-fan isnt that loud....if its makign this noise i think if i put it in park it goes away.... it seems to do it when its in drive under a load *turning the wheel without moving with heat on....and all that jazz. its done it once or twice without me doing anything...the other day i got it to turn off almost... it was makin the noise i hit the gas real quick...went to 50rpm yes 50RPM! all the lights came on like it stalled i went to put it in netrual to restart it and it reved back up to 600... ill try n get a under the hood vid. but this happens randomly i can drive my truck for 3 hours or 10 mins and it wont do it for 3 hours but somtimes it only takes 10 mins...its only after the trucks warm. im still thinking vac. leak or somthing it sounds like somthing opens or the throttle body opens it self. ill try n get an under the hood. Thanks
its happend a few times but no were im able to jump out n pop the hood. im gonna clean the IAC and put the IAC muffler on and see if that changes anything...
Also you know the PCV on the passenger side? Can i do like what i did to the driver side i took the PCV outta the intake and put it down by the frame rail and my TB has stayed sooo clean. i was wonder if i could take it out of the back of the TB put a vaccum cap on the back of the TB so no more oil in my intake!!!

Well i put the IAC muffler back on i took a picture too. yes i know the one hose is a lil on the long side im gonna go look at my stock air box and see if i got a shorter one. i sprayed TB cleaner over all the connections and the truck idle didnt change at all. i took my filter off put my ear to the MAF sensor gave it soem gas and i could hear the IAC close or open on the RPM's when it was coming down from the rev. i have yet to drive it but i hope this fixes it......how can a lil plastic box make that loud noise go away? Any ways heres a pic
hummm buying a new IAC how much is that gunna run me? Also is this noise the IAC's way of letting me know its gone bad?
What do you mean by fluttering?

Fluttering is the noise that you are hearing. The "muffler" is on there for a reason. If putting it back on fixed it, then don't bother. If not, you can try cleaning it. It may last for a while, but if not, you need to replace the IAC. I strongly recommend the factory replacement part. I've seen them anywhere from 50-150 bucks depending on application. It is a pretty common problem.
Your short intake setup may be enhancing the noise a little.

i have yet to drive it but the muffler is back on there. as you saw by my picture. i did find a smaller hose on my stock intake but didnt switch it out yet.
Also what about the PCV on the passenger side? can i take that out like i did for the driver side so i quit putting oil into my intake and down onto the frame rails instead?

You CANNOT remove the PCV valve, or the hose on the driver's side. Those are to remove crankcase pressure inside the engine. Those hoses are there for a reason. What the heck are you talking about the oil?
what i did on the driver side is i took the hose out of the intake and its sitting on top of my frame rail. Oil comes out of the valve covers the top of my driver frame rail is coated in oil coming out of the valve cover....oil that is no longer going into my TB and making it dirty since ive changed the intake i havnt had to clean the TB once. and if im going WOT alot i can smell oil thats coming out of that hose onto the frame rail.
I was wonder if i could take the hose off the back of the TB and lay it on the frame rail on the passenger side and put a vaccum cap on the back of the TB

its not oil oil i loose maybe a 1/4 of a quart of oil between oil changes if that. i got 130,000 miles on my 4.6L. its not like its pouring out of the hose its just when the RPMs get high enogh for oil to hit the top of the valve cover it goes out the hose and i can smell the oil fumes. you've seen when people clean there TB and upper intake right? all that black stuff is from the EGR *witch i deleted* and the PCV allowing oil into the intake....this isnt a 2 stroke motor i dont want oil in my intake. the PCV is to relese pressure right? what better way to relese it than have it just sitting somewere rather than having a vaccum on it.... Thats just my thought....
The powerstrokes have a simlar delete kit the CCV delete makes some white smoke is they sit long enogh running....they run alot better with the CCV delete. my TB has been alot cleaner without the PCV from the driver side in the intake....just wanted to take it off the back of my TB too but didnt know if the one on the passenger side was differnt from the driver side....i know the passenger side has that rattling thing on the valve cover...whats that called again? anyways was just wanting to do this so when i clean my TB and upper intake it wont get dirty again and will flow air better...
BTW thanks for the fast replys
