Can Our Key's Get Wet!!!!!!
#3
Iv'e soaked mine numerous times and had no problems, fresh and salt water. I have two cars that are from another company (who shall remain nameless) that have keys that look the same. The owner's manual from that company give a lot more detail-If key gets wet no big deal; however don't use wet key, dry well before use etc.
If it gets wet the way Raoul said all bets are off!!

Thank's. You see, when I go ride the jet ski, I wasn't shure if it could get wet. Last night I just took the key off (thier is a remote start=no wet) and put the ford key in a zip lock bag and put where it shouldn't get wet, I wasn't shure. So now, I wont have to worry as much. I still might go by wally world and get a key made so I can just lock my keys in the truck.
Thank's

The way I understand it the chip is a passive device that has what it needs to know burned in-no batteries required. The info needed to "unlock" the computer controlled part of the igntition happens when the contacts on the chip are energized. My other manual says that using a wet key will probably not start the vehicle, and give you a "PassKey Fault" light. Dry key thoughly and try again etc.
Too bad the remote didn't work that way-Fried mine with an unexpected dive in the pool.

I wash mine weekly with antibacterial soap. I think I have germ phobia or something.
Washed the remote once and it stopped working. Dried it, worked again. Wow! Same thing for the cell phone. I don't wash those anymore though.
PS Did I mention I have extended warranties on anything electronic?

My Ford-F150 key got wet and does not work.I came back from Kayaking and it would not start.Tried my spare key and it started right up.Went back and forth and started did not start etc. Key that got wet was an aftermarket key I have used daily for 6-7 years.Origianal ford key is OK but I am scared to get it wet.
