Help !!! Autolamp module
 

Help !!! Can someone tell me where the autolamp module is located on a 1999 F-150 XLT Lariat? The wifes headlights are not shutting off, and the instrument panel lights along with the exterior running lights are inop. My Haynes manual shows the module on the wiring diagram, but I can't find it on the truck. She is driving my F-250 V-10 until I get hers fixed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the rubbery oval top part of the dash , pull it off, the module is attached to that panel, where the light sensor slits are. That is the sensor/module. unplug it.

Thanks for the reply. I will try it first thing in the morning. When you say "pull it off" does it come straight out? Do I release clips, etc. ? or does it just snap off ? When you say "unplug it", if I do so will everything operate normal ? I really don't care if the autolamp function works or not, so do I need to spend the $$$ to replace it.

There are clips all the way around it. It will be tight, but it wont break. Yea, unplug it and im prettty sure the lights will work manually. I have seen one do that before at work, but i replaced it, so i never tried the lights with it unplugged.

Update !
 

Removed autolamp module and headlights work normal. The interior lights and exterior lights are still out. Found fuse #6, 15 amp, in power distribution box blown. Replaced fuse, now fuse blows each time the light switch is turned to "Park" or "On" Removed connector from light switch and applied a fused 12 volt input directly to the blue/red interior lights wire. Interior lights illuminate and fuse does not blow. Applied the same 12 volt fused input to the brown wire for the exterior lights and the fuse immediatley blows. Took a ohmeter and checked brown wire to ground, it shows a dead short. Suspect a shorted light bulb, or something in the trailer wiring harness. It's porning down rain here tonight with thunderstorms, no Garage: :mad: Will update tomorrow. Hope this helps someone else one day.

Finally fixed !
 

Removed all lights bulbs, no help. Disconnected trailer harness, no help. Found connector under the air cleaner canister that connects the bed to the cab/engine compartment. Disconnected it, no help. Finally removed the coolant canister, cruise control servo, and disconnected the fuse box. I open up the wire harness from the left front side light to the fuse box. Found the brown wire rubbing on the mount for the fuse box. A little heat shrink tubing and re-routing of the wires fixed the problem. This was like looking for a needle in a Haystack. It took 4 hours to put the truck back together. The wife is back in her truck, I'm back in my F-250 V-10. :)
