Question Lights in lower grill?

For those of you who have mounted fog lights on either side of the license plate bracket in the lower valance. Did you have to remove the whole valance to install and what did you mount them to. I see there is a metal lip that they couldmount to, but I do not see how to drill it w/o removing the valance. Any help is appreciated.

Take a look at

http://www.f150world.com/howto.asp

(as I recall, that bit of info used to be at this site).

I used smaller 1" angle iron than he prescribed and bolted the pieces together with 3 #10 bolts and it worked fine. Not nearly as stout as he prescribed, but the lights stay adjusted and haven't fallen off.

Thanks for the link. I do not see a hole in the frame he showed and I was hoping to mount them to the metal frame above the hole in the air dam. But that helps and I will see what I can do with his idea. Thanks

I also saw the how-to info. It didn't quite work for me. I used a different idea. Look in the valance hole and you will see a small lip turned down on the bumper (at least on my '99). I drilled a couple of holes in the lip and matched them in a couple of pieces of 1-1/2" angle iron. Be sure to use a center punch to keep the drill bit from walking and a small bit for a pilot hole. Then ream the hole to finished size. Think I would up using 1/4"-20 bolts and 5/16" holes. I then mounted the lights to this. With any luck there's a pic of the finished product. Sorry, no install pics. The lights came from AutoZone and they're inexpensive. Since my truck's a 4X4 I bought a new light switch with the fog lamp contacts and used the existing wiring.

1MoreFord,
I think that is what I had in mind. Using the metal lip that is running above the hole. I am just not sure how to get a drill to it w/o removing the dam. Thanks for the info.

I put Pilot brand driving lights that came with custom mounting brackets for the same location (either side of the license plate). I got them locally at a speed shop, but I have seen them in the Quadratec ford accessories catalog. They add alot of light to the road, good quality lights.

Thumbs up

Nope, had to fabricate own kit and drill to mount fog lights. Took about.. well.. a whole afternoon.. Perfect fit though, receded bulbs out of view yet still covers wide angle in front of truck.
