My interior light goes on and off as it pleases.. I open and close the door it stays on from 2sec. to several hours.. I start the truck and it stays on and goes off whenever it wants.. My door ajar light stays on..... is there a switch somewhere??.. I've searched Chiltons and nothing.....also with an opinion from several FORD people around here...Can anyone help?

Mine did that when the Ford dealer pulled my door panels to fix the paint, he got the power window switch in ****-eyed on the driver side and the dome/cargo light did what ever it wanted as well sometimes it would stay on all night. When I popped the switch back into the correct position it all started working right and I haven't had a problem since. (don't ask me why my window switch fixed the dome/cargo light and door ajar light but it did...??..)

Get yourself a can of WD-40. Stick the snorkel tube into the latch and flood it with the spray. The door ajar switch is located under the latch in the door and it sometimes gets sticky. The WD-40 dripping through the latch and into the switch usually clears up the problem. After the first spraying, operate the latch a few times. If the lights still stay on, you didn't spray enough. This fix seems to work on at least 95% of the trucks with this problem.

WD-40 worked for me too. I had that light staying on problem too for a long time until I read posts about it. I've had my 97 for five years now, and have only had to spray in the door latch once, about a year ago for this problem. Just make sure you spray until it starts drippiing out the bottom of the door.

Earned me brownie points with the boss too, when he asked me if I have had this problem like he did with his F150. Of course I told him about www.f150online.com !

I also had a similar problem on my 98 Windstar, sprayed in the door panels the same way and used the WD-40 to clean the contacts on the sliding door where it closes. Solved the problem there too.

I was just starting to fret about how many hundreds of dollars it was going to cost me at the dealer to fix this little switch, but decided to wait until it drained my battery completely before going.

speaking of interior lights...
 

I just got back from a week long hunting trip and noticed something strange. While listenimg to tunes around the campfire, with the passenger and 3rd doors open , suddenly, the interior light started to flash! It was a slow, about 1 second on & off that just started and wouldn't quit. I thought that maybe it was telling me the system voltage was getting low and guess what? The truck wouldn't start. I boosted the Ford from my friends truck and that solved the flashing interior light. Anyone ever heard of flashing interior lights??
